A while back my 8700 single fan card went out on my 1730. I did the reflow mod and it worked for about a month which I expected. Since I know it was my graphics card I ordered a refurbed 8800 dual gtx. I installed it and nothing called the company and they had some returns. The company they get them from tests them but apparently that wasnt the case they told me. I returned it and ordered another 8800 from a different ebay seller and just installed it and nothing again.
-I did the fn d test and the screen lit up grey
-what should my next step be?.. Return this one also?
-any other tests I can do? I considered reflowing the original and seeing what happens.
-the 8800 is compatible with my single fan 8700 right? I do video editing so figured I would upgrade while I was at it.
I greatly appreciate any advice on this I've had the laptop apart many times now and am ready to use it.

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Why not buy an 8800M GTX that already has a fan included? It should be compatible, perhaps you are having motherboard problems? You should also be able to upgrade to 9800M GTX.

The 8800 has fans I'm just stating my original 8700 only has one. It was the graphics card before thats why I'm confused now. Maybe I received 2 bad ones or possibly the motherboard. I couldn't figure out how to do the beep test to get a possible code.. Fn power?

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
All M1730 cards should basically be compatible with all M1730s. Are you sure you are buying good cards, and not some of this as-is junk that's floating around? A lot of them are pretty deceptively listed.

The first did not and I'm guessing same with this now. I can return for money back at least. Just getting frustrating and I want to make sure this is the issue.

I hooked up an external monitor and hit 'fn f8' to switch over the display and nothing happened. So seems like the graphics card but the computer powers down about a minute in keyboard flashes real quick.

Try reflowing your old card and seeing if it produces a display. If it does you know you've gotten bad cards, if nothing comes up you more than likely need a new motherboard. The m1730 did have motherboard failures fairly often
Replaced my graphics card 1730...
