I had a problem with overheating with my 1730 so emailed dell and they told me to hold Fn while booting and run a diagnostic test, and after the memory test I "should" have had an option to "TEST SYSTEM" but instead I got a message saying "No diagnostic utility partion identified/found"

so I may have deleted it :s

is there a way to recover this?

I don't believe you can 'recover' it if you deleted it already. If you decide to reformat your could try this (found it via Google):

If you dont want to wipe your drive, you can just run the Dell Diagnostics via booting up with a USB Flash Drive. Use this utility to to install the files to a Flash Drive:

    ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/diags/CW1355A0.exe
