OK, after much research I've decided to buy a 1330 with the following (or better options):

    T8300 processor
    Vista Home Premium Edition SP1
    Slim and Light LED Display
    2GB SDRAM
    160GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
    CD/DVD burner
    128MB NVIDIA® GeForce™ 8400M GS
    Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
    Bluetooth
    56Whr Lithium Ion Battery
Microsoft® Office Home and Student 2007
    1Yr In-Home Service, Parts + Labor

I'm looking for the best deal that doesn't compromise my integrity (i.e. I don't won't to pose as a Dell employee or stockholder). Any help is much appreciated and P.M.'s are fine with me.

    Thanks! - Stuart

If you haven't already I would check out the Dell Coupons on this site... not sure if they have one right now for the 1330 but they do every now and again...

Checked out the Dell coupons already. Nothing really great right now. Maybe new deals will come out before Montevina announcement July 14. I'll be looking.

If they don't come out before Montevina, the Santa Rosa laptops will SURELY have good discounts once Montevina is out and OEMs want their Santa Rosa computers out the door. :)

They had 25% coupon for the m1330 and m1530 about 3 weeks ago, but those tend to be relatively rare... I've only seen two of them between the m1330's release date and now.
Right now the price, without discounts, for your configuration comes out to about $1700. If you take this discount: http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsnb_m1330?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs
You won't be able to get it cheaper (if you include Office, anyway), but you can get a lot more for your money. If you're a college student, you'd be able to take another 12% off of that... that's the best deal I can come up with at the moment... you might be able to get a better deal if you wait longer for more back-to-school savings.

It's so hard deciding when to buy with a Dell because they run have new promotions like every few days. But with my 1530, I got a sweet 40% deal, so you never know if they could run that again. But certainly look around for coupons, and check the Dell site daily.

Thanks to all for the good ideas. I used to be a college student - about 25 years ago. I think that was about the time Andy Grove & Gordon Moore were founding Intel. Michael Dell was just reaching puberty. Bill Gates was stealing operating systems with complete abandon. In other words, the college discount doesn't help me any more.
For the folks who got the 25%-40% discounts - attaboy! Let me know i you see those numbers again!

    Thanks - Stuart

That last line should read, "Let me know IF you see those numbers again".

BestBuy has a sale on something very similar to what you're looking for.

The processor is the T7250, but it comes with an awesome 4GB of Ram and a huge 320GB hard drive.

In fact I just bought one yesterday, unfortunately I'm probably taking it back and eating the restocking fee because I freaking HATE the glossy screen. I had no idea it would bother me like this. I work outside a lot at coffee shops and on my balcony (I live in Cali) and when I'm outside I can't see a damn thing on my screen. It's like looking in a mirror.

Went back to BestBuy today and they don't have one single laptop in stock that has a matte screen. I don't know what the hell I'm going to buy...

    Anyways, it's a helluva deal.

LOL, by your original post I was under the impression people had actually done this before.

I don't see how you're goingto get an employee discount w/out some code.

And that stockholder thing is hilarious!!!

    Thanks for the laughs buddy

Shoelace - thanks for the coupon but got the following message from the Dell website upon Check-out:

"We're sorry, the coupon code you have entered is not valid in the segment in which you are currently shopping."

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for looking the effort!

Ignore my previous post. The coupon works like a charm as long as you are in the "Home and Home Office" area of the Dell website.

    Thanks Link!

from the 25% off thread, it seems like the coupon's valid til 25th..... (check to make sure by adding the coupon to a cart and seeing tis restrictions)

hopefully Dell woudl release a xps refresh via montevina(especially with the cooling problems in m1330)..... i'm sure you can order now(or order before coupon gets expired) and cancel/return(no restocking feei think) when xps refresh gets leaked out or...
