Hey guys, I was wondering whether it was possible to upgrade the RAM of an m1330 oneself. The Dell rep on the phone said it would only work with Dell RAM but I don't really believe this and have upgraded other notebooks (Sony, Acer, etc.) with extra RAM I bought separately without any problems. Anybody have any idea?

    Thanks in advance.

You will most certainly be able to upgrade the RAM yourself. Dell reps not only don't know anything, but they want you to buy Dell RAM from them in order to make more money...

    Hello!

The type of RAM inside the M1330 is: DDR2 SO-DIMM PC5300

So u can easily find this type of RAM at any computer store.

    Good luck.

Yeps, thats what I thought too. The rep became kinda agressive on the phone when I told him I had a spare RAM stick lying about to insert it myself if he couldn't take something off the price upgrade, 420EUR extra ($500+) for an upgrade from 2GB to 4GB...

    Thanks for confirming guys :)

You can also upgrade yourself to a SSD for cheaper than Dell offer if you live in the US :)

Yes you can upgrade the RAM and it does not need to be dell RaM. Most people here buy there ram from a 3rd party like crucial or newegg

I'm planning to upgrade my inspiron from 2GB to 4GB. Here in Norway that will cost much more cheaper then buying overpriced Dell RAM.

    I will buy 2x2GB with DDR2 SO-DIMM PC5300 RAM.

The price for 2x2GB is: 333 $ (Norwegian prices)
    I will sell my 2x1GB for: 166 $
Total cost for upgrading: 333-166=167 $

    What do u guys think?

    DDR2 SO-DIMM PC5300 Memory

I can see 1GB memory from $29,99  and great reviews... ;)

My question: Too good to be true... or reasonable once outside Dell ?

Your comments are highly appreciated; Thanks.

Thats where the States has such great deals...

Been looking everywhere for 4Gb for the M1330, accessible to Canada, and at a good price with no luck.

I keep hoping that Best Buy or Circuit City will come up waith a last minute sale so i can run across and grab it.

New Egg, Fryes, Buy.com and others will not ship over which is a killer.

Guys. Since our M1330 comes with the new Santa Rosa 800 MHZ chip, should we be purchasing 800 mhz ram speed to complement the CPU? Anything less would slow the system down, right?

No it does not. But you should still be able to see 3-3.5 gig or so. On on Vista 64 bit will all 4gb be used.

It seems a bit weird from Dell NOT to offer the 64-bit edition of the operating system when offering the possibility to select 4 GB of RAM.

Which of these pillocks over at Dell forgot to think about this issue?

Oh really. I ordered a pre configured (by Dell) 1330 with 128graphics and 4gb of ram. Kinda stupid that they offered these specs with a 32bit OS. Even though it shows 3-3.5gb of ram, is the system using all 4gb?

Sorry for bringing up an old thread. I recently purchased the Dell XPS M1330 with 3Gb RAM. Was wondering if I can just upgrade 1x2Gb to get 4gb of RAM? Or do I need to upgrade in pairs (2x2Gb)?

Does it make a big difference if you have RAM from different manufacturers (for timing, errors, etc)?

I've just bought this OCZ memory. Any good? Even though Santa Rosa only runs RAM at 667 MHz (it downclocks it), there should be a slight increase in performance due to latency etc, no?
