    Hey folks,

Sorry didn't want this (hopefully) quick question to disturb the giant owner's lounge threads and/or get lost in it...

Anyone have any recommendations on after market 8GB (4GBx2) modules for the SXPS 1645? Will any DDR3 @ 1333Mhz work (if that's not the right RAM then, by all means, correct me)?

I've got an SXPS 1645 with 4GB of RAM. I actually haven't popped it open to see how many modules there are, but I'm assuming theres 2 RAM chips. If it matters it is the latest build of the 1645 (the one that has the Radeon 5730 as an option). I'm running on the A09 BIOS.

I did some light Googling and found some upset posters on the Crucial forums, and was hoping someone here might be able to give some hands on experience in the matter so I can have some confidence in a post.

I'm working with a few VMs and enterprise app deployments so some extra RAM to throw at the VMs would be nice.

    Thanks!

I haven't upgraded my ram, but any laptop DDR3 @ 1333MHz should work. And yes, your laptop will have 2 x 2GB sticks, so you will need to replace both if you want to put in 2 x 4GB sticks.

People complaining on Crucial.. now that's interesting. I've used them a few times on other laptops and the only 'problem' I've ever heard about them is price (but sometimes they have good prices).

Thanks guys. Crucial is actually more expensive then the dell upgrade that is available during configuration, so I think I will go with the G Skill brand. CAS latency/timings are all the same anyway.

Yeah I was surprised too, as I've generally thought of Crucial as a reliable brand name. The complaints were on their forum I think, and it is very well possible that the posts are only from a vocal minority who might've got the one bad ram stick out of a few thousand.

Last step is seeing if I can justify this as business expense since it is for these VMs :)
