Does anyone have any clue if the QX9300 is going to work in the M1730 and if you bought a laptop now if you could upgrade to it?

The article below mentions that they have it down to 35W now and it would be a "drop-in" ready chip. I thought Montevina required a whole new MB? If it indeed turns on to be a 35W chip do you think Dell allows an upgrade or is that not even possible?

No, it will not be possible. The quad core will, undoubtedly, be using a different socket entirely than that of the chips found in any notebooks, currently.

I have read the QX9300 is a socket "p" and that article was from May 15th 08...

If it's socket P does that still not matter?

The QX9300 is not compatible with the M1730. The BIOS might not support it. Even if it does, it will run at a reduced bus speed.

Also, its TDP is 45W, and it has the same old pin-package, but a different pin-out.

It uses a slightly different socket, P' instead of P.
