I have a quick question on the RAM that comes with the XPS 15. I know just enough about swapping things out and computer hardware to be dangerous and mess something up. I am assuming from pictures that I have seen that there are two memory slots on this unit and that it has a capacity to hold 8 gb of ram. The one that I have ordered is coming with 6 GB. How does this break down? Do they ship it with a 4 GB and 2 GB stick? If so could I just swap the 2 GB out for another 4 GB and have 8 GB that way?

Don't know if that works or if I would have two buy two 4 GB sticks that are exactly the same. Below are the specs of what I ordered.

    Dell XPS 15
    Intel Core i7-740QM 1.73GHz
    6GB,DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce GT 435M 2GB graphics
    15.6HDF TLF LCD L501X

yea it comes with a 4gb and a 2gb, and yes you could swap out the 2gb for a 4gb, it is better to get the same brand to take advantage of dual channel RAM (works at a higher speed) but personally, I don't think you'll get more than a 5% performance gain. So basically, ideally you should get the same brand of 4gb RAM but you'll have no problems getting any stick of 4gb RAM, just make sure its ddr3 1333mhz

Sweet. Thanks a lot. I thought that was how it worked but I wasn't sure.

yeah, any ddr3 1333mhz will work.
to run in duel channel, you dont need to have the same brand for it to work. it just needs to be the same type, which is ddr3 1333mhz.
yes its ideal to match them identically, but its not a fundamental criteria.
