Does anyone have this laptop yet?

If so, please post your idle and load temps.

    Thanks :)

Lots of people have the 15z...there's an owner's thread in this forum along with a few others. Seems the general consensus is it is a decent system aside from the trim that is glued on and falls off fast.

If you want my opinion.. do not buy it.. I bought 1 and replaced it and returned both! the build quality sucks.. they are also having issues with the intel wireless cards

My laptop chrome rim started coming out without even any force! after 1 month and I only moved the laptop few times to the living room.. everything came out.. the DVD sound is so high and I got high temps on the top left side.. it is heavy too! so you are better of buying the xps 15 or wait for the xps 14z.. I think they will announce it by the end of the year

Oh and I forgot to mention that the screen borders are glued so on both laptops they were coming out! basically u can see the glue and the gap..

No idea what alinad said there, the XPS 15z does have some problems. I'd be surprised if the 14z was much better.

Temp-wise I think it is similar to the straight XPS 15, maybe a tad warmer, but they limit which CPU and GPU you can get to the weaker ones, most likely due to cooling issues. Look how much trouble the MacBooks had this year with overheating like bananas!

I really like my 15z, haven't had any problems except for the trackpad which had a new driver a couple days ago which fixed it (though zoom doesn't seem to be working, need to play around some more). I got mine end of June (i5 with 1080p screen). The trim has a little wiggle to it above the section with the USB ports (was like that when I got it) but the rest is still tight after 2+ months. Don't have any glue problems either, was it between the screen and the bezel or the bezel and the rubber gasket between the bezel and lid? Wifi got new drivers a couple weeks ago. I didn't have any problems with my Belkin router at home, will have to see how it works out and about once school starts back up in a couple weeks. Heat and noise is mostly from the hard drive (under the left palmrest), highly suggest replacing it with a SSD.

I got the new XPS 15Z and have been using it everyday. The quality is perfect and I don't know why there were many issues posted on the built quality. Dell did a great job on this 15Z.

Temps are between 45-52 degrees centigrade during normal web surfing and as I type. On idle, it drops to the upper 30's and low 40's. Max I've had playing games is in the mid-70's. This would be typical for a laptop and very good for a laptop as thin as the 15z. During normal use, the fan does not spin up very often but when it does, it isn't intrusive. If you are a gamer, then the fans will blast, but this machine isn't build for hardcore games anyway (more space for ventilation would probably be ideal).

The 15z has a build quality as good or better than most laptops (barring the Lenovo T-series and Macbooks Pros, which are very well-built). Forums usually attract those that are dissatisfied with their machines, so they are only a fraction of those that own it. Plus, it seems like most people replying don't even own one and are basing their opinions on the small percentage that are disgruntled with their machines anyway.

The wireless issue appears to not be with the wireless card, but rather its compatibility with some wireless routers. I for one, have no issues with my wireless connection and in saying that have updated to the latest wireless driver. The Cypress track pad came a bit fiddly, but the driver update and tweaking the setting works. The 1080p screen is gorgeous. The machine is speedy. Note that the 15z is flatter, but wider than most 15 inch notebooks - maybe they needed the extra horizontal space inside for components. Overall a real beauty of a laptop. The trim on my machine is sturdy and does not appear like it will fall off at any moment. It is not 'glued on' as someone said, rather it is locked in with little clips. The keyboard keys are a bit shallow and it took some getting used to. After a week, I barely notice any more. Speakers are clear. Battery life is up to expectations (I use everything at Max Performance and get a good 5 hours of use).

In my experience with this and my previous XPS m1530, Dell has been great with repairs, returns and customer service in general.
