    Hey,

    I recently purchased an m1530 with a 250GB HDD with 5400 RPM and I'm gonna replace that with a 160GB at 7200RPM.

I'm just wondering, should I even bother turning the laptop on when I first get it? Or should I replace the hard drive as soon as I open the box and do a fresh install of Windows Vista?

Is there anything that comes preloaded that I WON'T be able to load back up later...anything I need to save/do before I put in the new hard drive?

    yes

if u got Lojack, McAfee... activate those two subscriptions first, because the sbuscription links/info are on the first hard drive

after u install 2nd hard drive and install vista.... u can reinstall mcafee and log onto ur account(activated with ur watever months of 'free' subscription)... Lojack is installed into bios, use your lojack account to confirm presence, dont need to reinstall

if u dont do this, you will need a few phone calls to dell/mcafee/lojack to work the activation things out

(BTW, mcafee is kinda crappy.... get AVG or Nod32)
