    Hey guys,
    Im having problems with m1330
Out of no where i was just surfing the internet and everything freezes.
So i shut down the laptop by holding th power button for 5 secs.

After 2mins i turned it back on and the part where you see bar scrolling, it would freeze right there
I have done a memory and system test using dell utilities disc and everything is fine..

I have tried using SAFE MODE and it will bring up all these drivers, then it will freeze when it reaches this file called "crcdisc" or something.

Can someone please help me.. i have so many important files and photos that i really need

Do you have any USB devices plugged in?

On your BIOS is there an AHCI option?

Yes, i have changed it to CD/DVD boot 1.
It detects the Vista DVD, but after the part where it says "Press any key...", it will have they greyed bar loading up and then once they grey bar has loaded up, it will take me to the green vista bar. that when it will freeze

Another thing, when i reboot, itl take me to a black/white media direct page and just freeze. So i cant really get anywhere.

My sister had this problem. Vista/XP/7 would not boot up to show the setup screen. It froze at crcdisk. I am sorry to say but the HDD was defective(even though the DELL Diag didn't say so). You can boot up with an ubuntu live cd to try to recover your data.

It took her 24hrs+ to backup about 10gb worth of data...

I popped a new harddrive in and Vista installed just fine

laziepig: If it is a bad hard drive, then putting it into an enclosure and using it externally will not help.

chiew: Contact the Dell XPS service people and tell them you have a bad hard drive. Explain what's been happening. Assuming you still have warranty, they'll replace it for you. Unfortunately, a faulty hard drive can happen to anyone with any brand laptop, regardless of how well built a laptop is (and believe me, the M1330 is excellent in that regard).

thanks for or your help and advice guys.
Its not under warranty so i didnt want to call Dell. How much do they charge anyway for coming to my home and getting it fixed?

I brought it in to centrecom today. They charge $45 for labor or for just having a look at it. Its gona take them a week, apperntley they're flat out.

Probably a lot, there are only 4 screws and the hdd is easily exchanged by the user. If you can, just do it yourself and save alot of hassle and money

yeah il probably do it myself once they find out what is wrong with it.

And it hasnt actually been heating up. It use to heatup until i found out there was dust/fluff where the fan vent is. Cleaned it and temps dropped down by 10-15°
