    Hello gals, pals,

Last monday a technician went home to change the mobo for some problem i had with the HDD (believe it or not =_=). After that, he also changed the HDD itself.

My computer was acting as it should since 2011. Now, my xps is since they changed to that "new" mobo.

Upon receiving the mobo, the bios version was A14 (which i heard that it was bad to have that bios, since it was causing some problems). As soon as i could, i flashed it to A17.

After that, i installed my OS on the new hdd (since i lost the old one). Then.. that's where the fun starts.

I have multiple problems with many drivers from dell itself... for exemple :

-Dell quick set is not working. In fact, i cannot install it, because it says "your system is not supported". I tried to google that without any clue.

-The driver for the touch pad is NOT working properly... aka when i deactivate it through the fn key, it's still working.

-i do not have ANY sound that comes out of my speakers, even if my audio driver installed correctly...

-I had trouble with my graphics drivers until i download the lastest from intel itself.

-I cannot flash my bios to a prior version because it says that the system is not supported... again. On top of it, when it shows the "supposed" system i'm trying to install on, it says "dell xps 17". What a joke.

Now im wondering wth is wrong with my system... On top of it, since i had that new mobo, the 2 usb 3.0 aren't working properly... in fact, they do work for a bit, then, after 15-30 seconds, it disconnect any device i plugged into those port for no reasons, and i restart is required in order to fix the problem.

Could you guys help me for the driver part? I don't understand wth is going on with the system!

    Thanks for tha help,

    zaedas

Usually people would tell you to go to the Dell XPS 17 thread or whatever, but I guess since I have a few minutes to spare (as i've posted this many times) I'll help ya out buddy :)

Let me start by telling you, that our laptops in general are extremely picky with their drivers, so expect this everytime you do a system re-install....

I will start off by quoting and answering your bulletpoints:

-Dell quick set is not working. In fact, i cannot install it, because it says "your system is not supported". I tried to google that without any clue.

    https://rapidshare.com/files/3691305496/Quickset_x64_x86_L702X.rar

There's the link to both x86 AND x64 drivers for quickset...

-The driver for the touch pad is NOT working properly... aka when i deactivate it through the fn key, it's still working.

Please try the above quickset drivers and get back to me whether or not the touchpad will disable or not, what you're claiming does not sound trackpad-related but more of a keyboard/quickset related issue. To verify the touchpad's drivers ARE indeed working, please put (specifically in this way) two fingers down at the same time in an internet page, and move up and down, if you are scrolling, that means your mouse drivers are working just fine.

-i do not have ANY sound that comes out of my speakers, even if my audio driver installed correctly...

Can you specify the problem here? I highly doubt your sound drivers are right if the sound is not working, try going to the bottom right corner, and hitting the speaker, OR hit the cog-looking picture on the touch panel next to your power button (after quickset installation) and see if the speakers are muted. If this does not work, please specify whether or not you are indeed using the creative's X-Fi system.

-I had trouble with my graphics drivers until i download the lastest from intel itself.

So you're saying this is now working? Doesn't seem like a problem to me to address :) If it is not working, please go to the dell site and download these two, installing the Intel first then the Nvidia (you can later upgrade the Nvidia with the international driver if you wish).

*NOTE: This is only for the GT555m drivers as that is what I have.

-I cannot flash my bios to a prior version because it says that the system is not supported... again. On top of it, when it shows the "supposed" system i'm trying to install on, it says "dell xps 17". What a joke.

That is strange, because i've backwards flashed my laptop from A17 to A14 and A12 just fine.... Try it again after everything is installed on your PC. A17 should work just fine, just the heat profiles run a little higher than the previous. So sit on it because it's still a good bios.

Now im wondering wth is wrong with my system... On top of it, since i had that new mobo, the 2 usb 3.0 aren't working properly... in fact, they do work for a bit, then, after 15-30 seconds, it disconnect any device i plugged into those port for no reasons, and i restart is required in order to fix the problem.

the USB 3.0 hassle is needed for another dell contact, they need to install everything remotely through your PC then when it doesn't work, they'll send another tech out to replace the USB 3.0 daughterboard and possibly the MB too. So you'll have to go through the hassle of speaking with a dell rep. I prefer online as it's a lot easier IMO.

    Dell - Hardware Chat

P.S. when the tech replaced your mobo, did he input in the bios your existing service tag? To verify this, go to your bios, look at your service tag and cross reference with the service tag under your laptop, if they are indeed not the same, you need to address this with the technical support rep. Good luck!

    first, thanks for answering :).

1)Thank you for the link. I'll download them as soon as i'm done with the clean install on my laptop

2)Ah you're right.... when i put 2 finger on my track pad, my web page do indeed scroll. I guess it was quickset who caused the problem.

3)For the sound problem... well it's the same as some people on the dell thread (i did read some of it) Even if you install the sound driver, there is no sound coming out of the speaker... I'm not a newb in computers, so the first thing i checked was if the volume was not muted for some reason - it wasn't. Even the basic music from microsoft (when you install a fresh copy of w7) didn't work. It might be related to quickset as well. As for the x-fi thing, i'm not using it.

4)Yeah sorry if i confused you. i was able to install the display driver correctly. I never installed the nvidia driver from the dell website though, since i'm a gamer. I always download the lastest from nvidia.com.

    5)Okay, i'll stick with a17 then.

6)I quite knew it, i just hope it won't take another 10 calls to get something fix... Sadly, i cannot use the dell hardware chat since im in canada... We don't have this on dell.ca and the only way to contact somebody is through the hassle of calling them by phone - which i hate.

Once again, thank you for helping me. And the main reason i didn't want to post this in the dell xps 17 thread is that it would get lost quite easily...

answer to your ps : yeah he did.. i'm gonna check, however, if he wrote it correctly.

NP buddy, i'm here to help! Along with Sam over there on the Dell XPS 17 thread, and don't be scared of your questions getting lost because we both frequent from where we left off in that thread! I made it a goal to myself to get everyone's XPS 17 working perfectly.

P.S. You CAN install the video drivers for Nvidia on the Nvidia website. They'll send you off to the international drivers (which are more up-to-date than dell and functions a bit faster).

answer for the ps : Yeah i know, that's why im using them atm. :) (nvidia driver).

P.S : the download link for the dell quick set gives me an older version of it... is it normal? Like my live buttons (fn keys) are looking plain ugly and my control panel for the audio look really old Oo.

It's no where what i had before. Also, my track pad is not working even if i have it installed. :(.

Do you know where i could download the lastest driver for my xps 17? when i go on dell.ca, some of the drivers are 1 year old!! Like the one for the track pad Oo.

P.S 2 : Dell are sending another mobo my way... i hope this one wont "" up.

Nice to hear this :). Next time i've got question i'll put them there.

As long as your trackpad can do the two-finger scroll, that means the driver is indeed working, so did it stop doing that or something?

The quickset is the latest one that was released, so don't mind if it's ugly to you, it's just the way it was made for the newer version LOL.

If you have the older version, or have a version you want to try, by all means email it to me, i will modify it again and reupload and you can test for yourself to see if it is indeed the driver u need or not.

What drivers are you looking for specifically? can you enter your service tag into Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States] successfully? if it's the same thing, you're just SOL :( Dell doesn't update very often....

its weird... the last time i had my dell quickset installed, it was all shiny and white, with a modern design for the audio panel. Now, it's plain ugly and look like the 2000 edition... weird Oo.

I'm not kidding... one of my friend has the dell xps 17, the very same laptop i have, and he has all that stuff... If i could give you a comparison, you would understand :(...

in fact, it was looking like the same function keys on a mac... like this one :

    http://vinhboy.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/dell-windows-volume-indicator.png

    (the one on the right)

i managed to fix the audio problem, installing the lastest intel driver fixed it.

grats! probably a chipset problem hehe.....

as for the quickset problem, try transferring over your quickset folder from your friend's drive to yours....

on x64 it would be located C:/program files/quickset64

Yay, they just changed my motherboard today :). I don't have the problem with my track pad anymore (the fn key works like a charm). And, of course, changing the motherboard fixed the issues i had with my usb 3.0 :).

I thank you again for your help in the process. The only thing remaining now is the old quickset icons Oo. Well.. they're not old but ugly XD.

And btw, i took the quickset folder from my friend's xps, and then copy and pasted it over the one i had on my laptop. It seems like it's not fixing the problem, even after a restart... maybe it's located somewhere else?

    Thank you again ^^.
