Alright I have a dell XPS m1730 Laptop. Its the worst piece of machinery iv'e ever bought. I have had it just over a year and have had nothing but problems with it. Hardware failures, memory failures, and just yesterday i had my 2nd hard drive crash. With no help from Dell's xps support. Luckily i didn't lose any data this time( 1st time that happened lost 20 gigs of info) But i went off on dell yesterday(sunday the 25th) for 20 min(in a polite, respectful way) but was firm in telling them that there system they gave me is a piece of crap. I told them that they need to give me my money back or give me a Alienware or XPS desktop( which i REALLY don't want but i think thats my only choice) but what can they do!! I just want my money back(but i believe its to late for that) So i'm going to get what I can for paying over 4 grand for a system that runs like crap. Soooo I was wondering what should i tell the "Resolution Experts"(as there called) to do for me? They are to call me tomorrow and help with my PROBLEM. What should i tell the lamos to do for me? Any suggestions?

    Anything is appreciated.

    God Bless!

Seems like you were stuck with a lemon. Try asking if you can get a brand new replacement system. With no problems, it's really a great machine as I believe most owners here can tell you that (for a last generation system).

The best recommendation I have is to be polite and not insult, curse or something like that. Be firm in asking for a replacement, but be polite. You'll get better results that way, so it's in YOUR own best interest.

Considering how much you <s>wasted</s> spent on a 4K system, I'd ask for your money back. Then go buy a system that is less off a rip off.

I am firm in how i speak but i have called them so many times i lost count. So its just to that point when your not getting help it tends to bug haha. I'm chill with everything. I just want my PC to work thats all haha. I'm thinking i will tell them to give me a replacement desktop. Maybe i wont experience all these lame problems. What you think? Thank you for your quotes. Much appreciated!!

Well, if you can get your money back, it is better. You can probably buy a decent 17-inch laptop for about half that price. Or, you can pay that price to buy a really quality product such as a Dell Precision or a Lenovo Thinkpad, which have excellent support.

Perhaps you could start by demanding your money back, and see what you get. Also, contact a local court of law and file a complaint, that usually helps get things going.

True that!! But its been a year so i'm not sure that they will be obliged to do that(give cash back) even though that is what i want. Should i tell them to give me a Dell XPS Desktop or an ALIENWARE desktop? Since dell owns them!! And how far should i push for what specs i want? Not to be overbearing but still get my moneys worth. If i was to get a desktop.

What I would do is really try to get the money back. If they say they won't do that but they can give you a replacement, ask for a replacement that is worth what you paid back then. For example, if you paid 4000$ for your current laptop, ask them for a laptop or desktop that currently costs 4000$.

But start by asking for your money back. When negotiating, you always start by asking more than you really want...

You had it for 1 year and it broke 1000 times and you are just asking for money back.......after one year? Should have done that the 2nd time it broke. The most you can hope for is a replacement if you're lucky.

First off.. why would you pay 4000 dollars for a laptop?
Second.. You have had it for a year already.. they are not at fault for you not exchanging it sooner.. Get over it and stop whining.. go buy a new laptop (not a dell laptop)

Firstly. . . they upgraded me to the 1730 after having a 1710 because the 1710 had nothing but the same problems.
Secondly. . . i tried to exchange it after even getting new one. I have called them with more computer problems them i'm sure you will deal in a lifetime. I'm not whining. In all respect i'm just pissed and tired of having a system that i can't even rely on. So you have no say on telling me to get over it. The thing is i have already ive tried they say they can't help because its a replacement system but yet i still am dealing with the same problems and worse then i was having with the m1710.

You didn't mention, or at least I didn't see you mention, whether you still have warranty left, and if so what warranty (regular, accidental, etc..)

With that said, I very seriously doubt they will replace that system with an AW or an XPS desktop. If you are out of warranty they really aren't obligated to do anything. If you DO still have warranty all they are obligated to do is repair the unit, or replace it with an equivalent machine. They still have M1730's refurbished, so the best you'll probably get is another M1730.

Unless of course you go through this for a longer period of time. I went through this with my old E1705 for almost three years, fighting with Dell about fixing/replacing it. The field tech was at my house at LEAST 12 times in 3 years. They finally upgraded me to a (relatively) loaded M1730 system exchange (see sig). But, it took a LOT of work and time to get it.

    Good luck.

That's your problem. You want things fixed without doing anything on your part.

I bet most of your issues are software related ones that you caused yourself. If your HDD crashed, but you still recovered your data....how did it really crash....and that's a HDD issue, not something wrong with the laptop itself.

First of all I do have a warranty. It covers everything. A full 3 year warranty. Its up in 2010.

Man you have no idea what iv'e been through i have spend endless hours on the phone and called dell at least 100 times with many different issues. Some the same. I know i'm doing a LOT on my part. The frustration is endless with these people and these systems. I have been dealing with this for over a year now buddy. Its just getting old.

Well its both. I have experiences hardware and software related issues. I have had to reinstall vista more then 4 times. here is a link to some pics i was able to take after letting my computer sit for a day after it shut down on me. I didn't want to lose my info so I let it sit. I turned it back on a day later and got these errors:

Lol, you must not have read my entire post, buddy.

I do know what you are going through, probably better that you, because (like I said in my last post) I went through the same thing for almost three years, which is a little longer than one year.

In three years Dell replaced the following in my old e1705:

    Motherboard (Three times)
    LCD (Twice)
    HD
    Ram (Twice)
    Keyboard (Twice)
    Headphone Jack
    Speakers
    Wireless Card
    Bluetooth Adapter
    Power Adapter

How many hours of my time do you think I wasted for every component they had to replace? How many hours do you think they had me on the phone or Support Chat trying to fix every one of these problems before sending someone out? Hell, the very last problem I had with that machine took me over 11.5 hours on the phone (total) and 3 hours in Dell Chat before they sent someone out.

Like I said, they do NOT have to upgrade you or replace the machine. They technically only have to get your machine working properly. If for whatever reason they replace the machine, their policy is to replace it with either the exact same thing, or whatever the next available better system is IF they are out of stock on your system. For example, if you have an old Inspiron notebook, and they don't have any new or refurbished, they would replace it with a Studio.

IF IF IF they decide to replace the system for you, I would almost 110% guarantee you you will not get an AW or XPS desktop. Especially since the M1730 is still for sale new and refurbished. If you are looking to get upgraded you'll need to wait until they no longer have M1730's, then hope for an system exchange.

But hey, what would I know? It sounds to me like you just want someone to lie to you and say you'll for sure get whatever you want. In that case, yes, you'll probably get a loaded XPS 730x Desktop as a replacement.

Will all do respect i just want the pathetic problems fixed. and NO i would never have someone lie to me to make me feel better that is unethical and immoral. I would not do that. All i want is a great running system and all i have is a problem. I will be happy and Blessed with whatever i receive. Whether it be a desktop(not saying it will but y not) or a replacement 1730. I just want the problem fixed. Sorry you had to go through all the bull crap to man. No disrespect to ya. Im just done with dell!! Ya know!!
    God Bless.

Something doesn't make sense. After 3 years of dealing with 'bad' experiences even with replacements is kind questionable. XPS line usually has better product support.

I assume you're talking to me since my problem was for almost three years.

My first machine was not an XPS. My new one is.
