The one and only reason I got my 1645 was to play, edit and burn Blu Ray disks. My system is less than 6 months old (end of December 2009).
A week ago my PowerDVD stopped playing Blu Rays. It plays regular movies just fine, but when I put in a Blu Ray disk, first it says Loading, and then gives me this error:
Microsoft Visual C + + Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files (x86)\CyberLink\PowerDVD DX\PowerDVD.exe
The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
I contacted Dell, and they said that this is a software, not a hardware problem. And they wanted me to pay $250 to purchase another software warranty for 12 months, so they could try to fix it. Again, this $2K computer is less than 6 months old! Apparently, I have 3 types of warranty, but they all cover hardware only.
This is what I've attempted so far:
- reinstalled PowerDVD (twice) - didn't work
- reinstalled Microsoft Library 2005 and SP1 (twice) - didn't work
- tried Free Windows Registry Repair - didn't work
Is there anything else I can try? The other option is to do a fresh install of everything, but I'll lose all the data/upgrades I've done over the past 6 months.
Please, help if you have any other ideas!!!

Only thing I can suggest would be format and see if it continues.

Dell is right.
it is sony's way to screw piracy. sony constantly change bluray encryption so we have to constantly update our drivers (video, hdmi, etc) to be compliant. update any drivers that has to do with playing video. that worked for me. -

Did you have to update anything that is not offered by Dell directly on its download site? -
Well, after wasting the whole weekend trying a gazillion of things, I gave up and reformatted the whole thing, re-installing Windows and everything else. Now my Blu Ray drive is working again.
So if anyone else is having the same problem - I don't think there is any other way around it. It had nothing to do with PowerDVD software, so updating the program, or anything else didn't help (and I've updated pretty much everything there was to update!) I think something got screwed up in the registry.
It's such a nice machine, but I can't believe the number of problems I've had with it, and it's only been 6 months. -
To bad you had to do a complete reinstall to resolve you issue. : (
At least your lappy, is in working order again for you.
But as advised, keep an eye on it...and see if it happens any further going forward..you can advise Dell, etc.
