When I log onto my Dell account, I see a new order for PowerDVD 8.1 to be shipped to me with no ETA. I haven't made this order, it just showed up. I know that the new PowerDVD9 was just released with full MediaCenter integration for BlueRay playback.

Do you think Dell, out of their hearts goodness, would just send out the new version free of charge without even asking? Or is it something else?

I know I could probably call or chat with them, but I'd rather avoid the pain and just ask here. :)

If you didn't order it, it sounds like it's most likely a mistake. I don't think Dell will randomly give you something like that for free. Probably a good idea to contact them if you don't want it. They might send it to you for real... and charge you for it :p

If you order a Blu-Ray drive with 1640, it should come with PowerDVD 8.1 DX (different from the "Deluxe" version: DX plays BD and a custom version for Dell; Deluxe cannot play BD).

And regarding PowerDVD 9, no. Not a chance.
