When I had my XPS L501X core i5 processor, pictures take like 3-4 seconds to open, like when you are watching pictures and go to the next it gets blurry for 3 seconds and then its normal again, I seemed weird but I thought it was normal. I've sold my laptop and waiting for my L502X now, I'm currently using an old dell latitude d530 with intel core 2 duo 2.0 ghz, and looking at the same pictures again, they open instantly! , they don't take as long as the XPS I had, could the processor be damaged somehow?

More likely just a lot of bloat on the XPS and/or a badly fragmented hard drive. Over time that happens in Windows, hence the reason why I always format 1-2 times per year. I'm on 9 months though on my desktop since the last, SSD is certainly helping out there! I never was good about defragging though, so who knows.

Now that you did mention the HDD I think it might have been the HDD, when I first got it, it was quiet but after some time it wasn't as quiet anymore and the palmrest gets hotter than usual.

HDD getting louder over time is never a good sign. But not your problem anymore now is it.
