Pen drive must be manually opened rather than auto window upon inserting pendrive into port of laptop.

Recently downgraded new harddrive to XP Pro SP3 and openSUSE 11.0

    Thanks,
    Chetanji

What do u want to do basically?

You mean you want the pen drive 'folder' open automatically, when you plug in????

    Exactly,
Just like on all the other computers when you plug in the pen drive.

Automatically a folder opens asking you what you want to do.

This is what I want rather than to have to open the pendrive manually.

    Thanks,
    Chetanji

try this when you pen drive is plugged in....

My Computer > right click the drive > properties and see if in the autoplay tab, the appropriate action is set to do nothing.. change it to open folder.. and see if it works then..

Also, for a quick check, right click on the pen drive icon on the task bar and see if u have an enable autorun or autoplay option or similar...

Right clicking on pen drive in My Computer does not show an autoplay, although my workstation does and all is well with the workstation showing an auto windown upon inserting a pendrive.

Perhaps My drivers are not set up exactly correct on the laptop.

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Shell Hardware Detection > Return this service to Automatic.

Start > Run > Gpedit.msc > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System. Check your settings in the right pane for Turn Off AutoPlay and Disable it.

Sorry it is set to Startup type: Automatic already.

I now have the feeling I have the wrong drivers installed for the USB.

    What do you think?

Did you disable Turn Off AutoPlay in Gpedit ? Restart after that.

When I get to Administrative Templates I am only given choices for >Windows Components
    1. Windows Media Player
    2. Windows Update.

I am using XP PRO SP3

    Thanks,
    Chetanji

In Gpedit.msc under Administrative Templates I only have...
    Windows Components available.
there are no System Settings available.

    This is xp pro sp3.

    Thanks,
    Chetanji

PS thanks for the great photo, but I do not have all the extra settings under Windows Components.

Ok, so that is a no-go.

When you plugin this pendrive into any other computer, does the Autoplay dialog pop up ?

When you plugin any other USB device or drive into your notebook's USB port, does the Autoplay dialog pop up ?

When I plug any pen drives, and I have three, they all act fine everywhere else except this M1330 Xp Pro sp3.

Ok, so other pen-drives work fine. What does 'this' pendrive have on it ? What is the file-system ?

Sorry I have not been clear.
All pendrives work fine on any other computer.

On the M1330 no pendrives auto window.

The laptop does not allow the window to pop up asking what do you want to do.

    thanks.
