Hey, so I wanted to try overclocking my graphics card on my XPS1530. I installed nTune and was just wondering what settings I should use.
The base settings were a core bus of 475 and memory bus of 702. With this I received a 3dMark 06 score of 4257. How should I change these settings? Has anyone used settings that gave them good results?

    GPU Info: geforce m 8600gt (256 mb ddr3)

Also, at idle it runs at about 60 deg C and during the stability test in Ntune, it went up to 70 deg C. What is a safe max temperature?

Thanks in advance for all the help.

    Hey snake,

I have actually tried overclocking my xps m1530 with rivatuner, i think my settings were somewhere at 600 Mhz core clock and i cant remember the mem clock... it reached 90C under stress, Thats not a good temp, anything below 80 is fine, so you might wanna start by checking your temps while gaming, if they are below 80, i would think you could start slow like... 520 core clock, and 800 mem clock, and see what temps you get.

Im obviously not gonna overclock anymore, since my temps go above 80C at stock clocks :D

    Cheers man!

You can use Rivatuner or Nvidiatool to overclock your graphic card. The temperature less then 80oC should be fine.

    Not sure about that.
Even without overclocking my GPU goes easily to 84 all the time when playing since I have my laptop (thats 6 month now). I just overclocked the GPU to find out more about the rising temperatures but its still the same. But i think I have a general temperature problem but iam not sure to say everything over 80 C is not good.

I wouldn’t push it too hard if I were you, given the high failure rate of 8400/8600 cards due to thermal problems.

The GPU can stand temps of about 110C, but that will obviously shorten its life and increase the chances of failure.

I would say about 82C or 83C is still on the safe zone, but remember that the GPU will downclock when its close to reaching 90C ( sometimes less), and we dont want that :D

in short, its just a matter of wanting to risk it, knowing your steps, watching your temps, and enjoying your games. RSTG lol

Which Nvidia driver are you guys using with the overclocked 8600M GT?
I have the 8600M GT on my laptop overclocked to 650 / 1300 / 902   and it’s freaking flying with the Extreme X9000 CPU. I’m running Nvidia 176.44 as the driver.
