Hey guys, i been trying to over clock my 8600M GT on my 1 month old XPS M1530.

Currently, i have my Core OC'ed to 563, shader to 1126, and Memory the same, which is 702..

When i run my 3DMark06, My Graphic Card gets to 75 degrees Celcius the HIGHEST, and my Core 2 Duo gets to like 70 the HIGHEST, but my ACPI gets up to 78 as the highest and i am a bit worried, what is the ACPI anyways?

BTW i am monitoring temperatures with HWMonitor.exe

    basically your chipset sensor.

so ACPI is my chipset sensor? Then Do i need to worry about its temperature?

Also what is the highest temperature for the Core 2 Duo and the Hard Drive before something start to go wrong?

    Thank you

ACPI is your thermal zones sensors located in the chipset.

C2D's have at thermal spec of 100c . Try keep the HD below 55c

alright so ACPI is sensors but do i need to keep an eye on the temperature of the ACPI?

    Thank you for clarifying lol..

    ACPI controls your fans :)

Since you already found your peak ACPI temps, theres no reason to keep a close eye on it. It usually follows close to the CPU temps anyway.

Undervolt the CPU for lower temps.
Flipfire has a guide in his link.

I can undervolt it, but would it be easy to return it back to stock voltage? Is undervolting the CPU make the computer run alot slower?

Right now I OC'ed my GPU to 575/1075/740 @ 1280x800 and I get about 5354 Marks, does that sound right? I'm getting 78 degrees for both the GPU and the ACPI at 575/1075/740..

My GPU hits 96c playing WoW after an hour on the laptop cooling pad.

96C on the GPU is REALLY REALLY high, i think you should drop that down somehow before something start to mess up..

Another question, i am using Rivatuner, lets say we find my optimal max settings and its all good, like maybe 700/1200/800, now after i play game, and i shut off my computer, and once i start up my computer again, the OC settings goes back to normal, now how can i make it so that it wouldnt reset after EACH shut down and start up.

Also, if staying the same isn't possible, then can i raise the OC settings from stock to 700/1200/800 without doing it 10Mhz each time until i get up to 700?

Create a profile. Tick the Startup setting. Its all there in that same screen in rivatuner

Lefix, your temps seem fine m8. For your info I'm getting much the same.

    With an overclock of 550core/800mem I get;
    GPU 75degrees
    Cores 1&2 70degrees
    ACPI 80degrees

I've had her o/c much higher (625core and 850mem) and the temps were much the same but I've settled for the lower o/c just to increase lifespan.

Another wee tip for temps I have found to work great is raising the rear of the laptop just an extra 1cm off the desk. Without going to the extent of buying a purpose built cooler raising the back to allow for greater airflow in seems to knock 3-4 degrees off my temps. I've actually got my external hard drive wedged under there to raise it, not pretty but it works!! hehe!

On the subject of temps I dont know if you have notice but whilst leaving the laptop doing nothing and monitoring with rivatuner temp graph is gives a nice wave i.e. the temp gradually builds up to 65degrees (laptop idle) then the fan kicks in. The temp drives down to around 52degrees where the fan stops. The sequence then repeats itself, cool.

I see thats cool, in glad my temp is normal.. I have a laptop cooler, bought it almost 3 years ago for my old laptop, I use that when. I game but it still gets up to 78 with or without the overclock after a couple hours of gaming..

Oh wells.. I guess it won't get any higher..
