    Hey,

I had a strict $1200 dollar limit, and I have owned quite a few Dell's so I went to the site, picked out a XPS 15 and put one together - trying to get the most bang for my buck. Anyway, I ended up with the following setup after looking at all the discounts I could find and different setups:

    i7 2.0 to 2.9 "turbo" processor
    8GB RAM
    2GB Nvidia card
    750GB 7200RPM H.D.

    But...

The 720p screen, I thought I couldn't afford the better screen.

So after I placed the order (last night) I was on the website configuring XPS 15's for the hell of it. I configured it in a way that it was $3 more than what I just paid, and has the better 1080p screen - everything else was the same. I have it saved in My Cart.

Now 12hrs later it is in "production" mode, and they are saying I can't modify it now, and the department that does it isn't open until tomorrow...

Any suggestions? Basically I just need to know if I have to cancel and start fresh or can they put in a change for the LCD or something?

    Thanks

Yep, you would have to cancel and start fresh. And I think you *absolutely* should. The 1080p screen is probably the single-most important upgrade to get for the XPS 15, and makes a huge difference. That upgraded screen is one of the highest-quality available on the market in that price range, and honestly, all the other upgrades should be second to that.

It might suck to have to cancel your order and start over, a little bit, but seriously. It's absolutely worth it and you will not end up regretting it one little bit.

1080p is a must. what you can do is after you place a new order call them up and say u want to cancel the order and they will offer you discount to keep the order.
I called them up and they offered me $100 off if I kept the order, i immediately agreed. After a couple of days I noticed that my order had an extended 1 yr warranty so I again called up asked for refund for the extended warranty they offered me $75 off to keep it.

So in all before the discount my total was $1115 and now with $175 off it is $940.

    specs,
    i7 2630qm
    6gb ram
    1080p
    Blue-ray
    500gb HDD 7200 rpm
    backlit keyboard.
    N-1030
    Nvidia 525M
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    sound blaster

You got a nice deal man!

Just called, they said they could not cancel it, has already been manufactured :(

So I will have to receive it, then return it... They offered me $100 if I keep it...

    Bummer.

Not taking the 1080p screen already was a HUGE laptop-breaking mistake.

Especially if you are on a budget AND take 8GB ram from Dell. Never ever buy ram from Dell, their prices are just hilarious. Could have saved a lot of money by taking the 4GB base config and upgrading yourself (8GB should cost you around 60-80bucks, depending whether we're talking $ or € ;). Switching ram modules is about as easy as switching batteries.

I concur. That was what I did with my replacement order. The Dell Customer Service Officer had offered 16GB of memory to me for around £380 and I turned him down. I said that I could have saved £180 by ordering 16GB from Crucial. That was why I went for the 4GB configuration.
