Hey NBR community. I am scheduled to undergo a fresh install of Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit on Tuesday evening 04/28/09. I am a little worried I might screw up some drivers by picking the wrong ones or losing some. Could you guys please provide me with all the needed drivers (I would be extremely grateful if links were provided) I will need during my computer's re-installation process? Also, I have no idea what the AHCI driver is/or where it is located...

    My Specs:

    • XPS 1640, Intel Core 2 Duo P8700(2.53GHz/1066Mhz FSB/3M L2 Cache)
    • 4GB, DDR3, 1067 MHz 2 Dimm forXPS 1640
    • 16.0 inch Wide Screen 16:9 720p HD WLED LCD, W/2.0 MP, XPS 1640
    • ATI Mobility RADEON HD 3670 - 512MB
    • 500GB 7200RPM Free Fall SensorSeagate Hard Drive
    • Microsoft Windows Vista with SP1 Home Premium Edition 64-bit Edition English
    • Integrated 10/100 Network Card
    • 8X DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive for XPS1640
    • Integrated High Definition Audio 2.0
    • Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card

Thanks to you all in advance.

For Intel components, you can use the drivers from the Intel Download Center website. Specifically, you will want these for your XPS 1640:

    Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility
    Version: 9.1.0.1012
    Link: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=10884&strOSs=150
Note: Even though Intel's website denotes that the desktop series motherboard chipsets are only supported, mobile generation chipsets are also compatible.

Intel SATA AHCI (Intel Matrix Storage Manager)
    Version: 8.8.0.1009
    Link: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=17412

    Intel WiFi Link 5100/5300
    Version: 12.4.0.21
    Link: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/download.aspx?url=/17542/eng/ICS_Dv64.exe&DwnldId=17542

    -----

You'll also definitely need the following:

    IDT 92HD73C1 Audio
    Version: 6.10.0.1062, A14
    Link: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...&servicetag=&os=WV64&osl=en&catid=-1&impid=-1

    Ricoh R5C83x/84x Flash Media Controller
    Version: 3.55.01
    Link: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-69983.html
Note: Even though this driver has been provided by Lenovo for its notebooks, it should work on Dell notebooks as well.

    Synaptics TouchPad
    Version: 11.2.12, A02
    Link: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...&servicetag=&os=WV64&osl=en&catid=-1&impid=-1

    ITE IT8512 CIR Receiver
    Version: 5.0.0004.6, A07
    Link: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=17&fileid=271594

    Broadcom BCM5784M LAN
    Version: 11.9.1.1, A00
    Link: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...&servicetag=&os=WV64&osl=en&catid=-1&impid=-1

    Creative Labs Integrated Webcam
    Version: 1.06.03.0309, A06
    Link: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=17&fileid=302206

    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3450/3670
    Version 8.590, A06
    Link: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...&servicetag=&os=WV64&osl=en&catid=-1&impid=-1

Hopefully I put down every driver you need to get all the components working. Since I'm not a Dell user, I have no way of knowing that these are all the drivers, but I'm pretty confident that it's everything you need based on your specs.

Justin, I really appreciate your effort to help me; however, the majority of the links you provided (all the non-support.dell.com ones) link to errors. Could you please provide me with the links directly from dell? Thanks a bunch man.

Oh, sorry about that. See, the driver links were truncated when I copied and pasted them from my driver thread over at the HP forum. :) I'll update my reply above, and I also posted them below for reference.

    Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility

Again, my apologies about the dead links. :)

Edit: I posted the official Dell links in the next post.

Here are the official Dell links to those drivers that I posted with the (previously) dead links. However, note that the Dell versions are a little older.

    Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility
    Version: 8.7.0.1007, A00
    Link: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=27&fileid=265073

    Ricoh R5C833 Flash Media Controller
    Version: 3.54.05, A01
    Link: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...&servicetag=&os=WV64&osl=en&catid=-1&impid=-1

    Intel WiFi Link 5000 Series
    Version: TIC153101, A02
    Link: http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=281726

For some reason, it doesn't seem like Dell posted the individual Intel SATA AHCI driver (Matrix Storage Manager) for your product. You can use the Intel link above to install the SATA AHCI driver.

    Hi,

I'm trying to retrofit XP on the XPS1640 and am stalled by lack of drivers. The graphics display is a bit limited at 1024 X 768 and the LAN/Wifi ports are unavailable. (and a number of other less important stuff).

Software loads okay and it would probably run quicker if I could get the SATA driver in instead of emulation.

I've tried the ones listed earlier in the discussion with litle success.

Any ideas where I can find the XP drivers, in particular the Graphics?

    Thanks in advance.
