When I finally get my XPS M1730 I will also do a clean install. I have only browsed that guide but it seems too long and complicated. Any way I was going to do it a much easier and shorter way.

These are what you need to have in advance:

    -OS CD/DVD
-Drivers from DELL website and other places
-Software to format hard drive (I will be using Active Kill Disk http://www.killdisk.com/) you could use OS CD/DVD to format if you want or use some other software

    Installation:

    1. Format hard drive using software of your choice
    2. Install OS
    3. Install Drivers

    DONE! Only 3 steps!

No Bloatware beacause it is a CLEAN install that you do yourself.

however dont use all CDs from dell.they contain stuff very near to bloatware. try to exclude a few stuff like media direct. my opinion is to install judiciously whats required for you
