I'm not a expert at OCing, not even an Amateur, But I can't seem to find a stable, clock. Also, I've been using RivaTuner v2.2 on XP SP2, and on Vista Ultimate x64 SP1. Also, it doesn't help at all, If I'm running 610/905, it doesn't increase preference at all, it decreases it...

So, can anyone give me some OC advice please...

this happens because you are getting to a thermal limit where your card is being downclocked.

I don't remember at what temperature the card downclocks automatically BUT

at 70* it starts to freak out with the fans....also make sure she is plugged in and not running only on battery power

Dayan, what xps model is it? depending on that i can do some experiments with overclocks.

Also reaching the limit will brick your driver into low power 3d, so you have to reset your laptop without the overclock, and try a lower OC, if your card is a 8600 GT, then try lowering the memory clock to 890, and your core clock to 600, you can test the FPS increse by opening a game and adjusting the OC whith the game still in operation.

M1530, I'll try that, I also have the 8600M GT. (With a T7500, 4GB of ram and running A09 Bios, if any of that info was needed)

Edit: I changed it while in COD4. it helped alittle bit, but then my computer crashed, No BSOD, just shut off. I was worried that someone on my motherboard went out, but it started back up again... Any Ideas?

Try a lower clock speed and then work your way up, as opposed to tryin a very high clock speed then working your way down.

make sure the drivers you run dont have OC downclock issues, and is would use Nvidia System tools 6.03 its easy OCing within your control panel, like it better then ati tool or rivatuner. Also i know of issues whenyou OC with m1730's that if you have a CPU which bottlenecks your GPU to start when you OC it can result in a decrease in performance in 3dmarks, so check that out.

No offence intended, but it sounds like you don't really know what you're doing. If you don't even know what a thermal shutdown is, or why it's happenening, you should not be overclocking at all.

The best advice I can give to is to stop overclocking, leave it to experienced users. The M1530 is a slimline system, with limited cooling abilities, and the 8600M is known to have quality issues that are exacerbated by high-temps.

Just leave it alone man. If you're not getting performance gains, and you don't know why you're thermal getting shutdowns, and you basically don't know what you're doing, leave it alone.

I guess, I guess I'll try again in 3 or 4 months, when I'm really gonna learn Overclocking (Building a computer, and gonna learn it then, for better or worse)

dayan, it looks like you have the same problme as me, my m1530 suddenly restarts when playing for about half an hour with the OC, but this only happens in one game, it runs fine with the others, and seems bios A12 fixed this... so lets do a checklist:

1- check your temperatures with HWMonitor, if your gpu is getting above 90C on normal clocks while stressing then its time to call dell to get it fixed, normal temp ( for me ) is 80C with stock clocks while gaming ( 82 OC'd at 625 core, 900 mem)

2-update your video drivers at laptopvideo2go.com/forums, i recommend driver 178.24.

3- update to Bios A12 from the dell website.

    keep us updated
