Yup. I finally got a Dell chat sales rep to finally confirm this fact, after she checked with tech support.

So the 3D is glossy and the non-3D is matte?

That's so weird that 900p would be glossy, 1080p is matte, and 3D 1080p is glossy......

interesting. a few days ago i was building a dell xps 17 and used live chat to ask if the 17" 1080p screen was matte, or as they call it on their comparison page, "antiglare". He said it was not and they couldn't offer that laptop with a matte screen. I told him they should fix their site then since it clearly says that model is antiglare, and not truelife on that comparison page. So apparently their site is right, and that support guy was wrong! Makes me happy cause this was the only thing holding me back from ordering it...

click compare side-by-side to see the chart i'm referring to:

I'm confused....I ordered a non3d XPS 17 and they had an option to upgrade to the 1080p screen for $100 bucks. I assumed the 1080 screen upgrade WAS the 3D screen. Is this wrong? After doing more research, I found many don't care for the glossy screen for everyday work....at this point I was concerned. ....and now you are guys are saying there is a 1080 screen that is non 3D and is matte. If you guys are right...this is exactly what I want. My order is in the deliver preparation stage...I guess I'll find out in the next week or two. Thanks!

I still haven't decided if I prefer matte to glossy yet as this will be my first laptop in quite some time. Is there a stark difference between viewing, let's say, a Blu-Ray movie on a matte vs. a glossy screen. Will the movie look "dull" ??

You will get 2 memory slots.

I don't know if there is a matte XPS 17 matrix. But in general terms, in MY PERSONAL opinion, a glossy matrix is always a little better in terms of color (the way you experience it). But then, I know people who dislike the glossy matrices so much they say that is not true ;)

I have tried comparing the memory usage on a 3d xps 17 with 8gb and another, 16gb. I notice that when I am using AutoCad, the memory usage on the XPS 17 installed with 8GB was at around 85% utilised when rendering but with 16GB loaded under the same situation, memory usage was just around 30%!!! Bear in mind that the specification of the laptop is per my signature. It goes the same when using Photoshop CS3.

With 16GB installed, you have more room to maneuver but it is subjected to the capability of the cpu. I notice that there is no difference in the cpu usage on both ocassions. It was running at 2.5ghz (TurboBoost).

I am still thinking of whether I should save some money and get the 900p where it will give me around 8 hours of juice on a single charge or stick with the 3d 1080p screen where a single charge will last for 3 hours.

Got my L702X non-3d on Monday with the AG screen. Kind of split on it since I'm used to glossy screens.
