Hi there. I've had my M1530 for a few months now and have always been a little bothered with not getting the LED LCD screen. I have the regular high res (1440 x 900) LCD. When I bought it I had a lot of the options maxed out and I've been reading recently that the LED LCD is supposed to have more even lighting, brighter, uses less power, thinner, and is lighter. I know how expensive it would be and that doesn't really bother me, but am I just worried about having the best or is it a good idea to upgrade?

Are you having issues with your current monitor? Is something bothering you with your monitor?

For normal viewing, I couldn't tell the difference between my regular LCD screen to a new LED screen my friend just got on his e6400.

My suggestion, don't think about it too much, your just worried about not having the best.

Having seen both a Dell XPS M1530 with the CCFL display next to a Mid 2007 MacBook Pro, the difference in lighting was like night and day - the MacBook Pro was much, much brighter at maximum brightness and overall the CCFL display on the XPS looked dim.

You could probably order a display assembly from Dell spare parts but it would be a bit expensive, and you'd have to order the whole assembly as LED-backlit displays don't use inverters or the other components that a CCFL would use (that being the reason for being thinner in comparison to CCFL displays).

For some time I've had two M1330 one with LED and the other with CCFL, the difference was not much, in fact I thought that the CCFL had better picture, the LED was a bit brighter and thinner and that is why I kept it, if I had to pay $10 extra I would not.
