Had my wonderful XPS M1530 for about 6 weeks now--loving it.

But a day or two ago the fan started coming on soon after turning on the notebook and the processor is under heavy use, even when I let it sit for hours with no programs open. Any ideas?

    This is a Vista machine.

Hmm Don't know, but my fan is coming on sometimes when I just surf the web /chat or something, did urs before this? or was it always dead silence?

No, it normally comes on every so often or, when I'm in heavy use, a lot. But yesterday/today it won't turn off, even after I let it sit with nothing running (except the normal background stuff) for a few hours.

have to ask, did you check in the task bar if the cpu is being used during this time?
