    Hi there.

I have a Dell XPS M1530 laptop with a Marvell 88E80XX network adapter. I was connected to my local network and the Internet, but somehow I got disconnected and the "Network Cable Unplugged" icon appeared. Since then, my network card refuses to connect again. Most of the times I cannot get the link lights to flash and when I do, i get an IP from the local DHCP server, but neither the Internet nor the network work. The funny thing is one time it started working and continued for about half an hour before crashing again.

I have changed the network cable and also reinstalled the driver. The problem seems to persist both in Windows (I'm using Vista x86) and in Linux.

I think it is a hardware failure, but I'm still hopeful. :p Maybe some of you encountered such a problem and / or could help me.

    Thank you very much.

Try another port on your router/switch. Since you've already tried software and another cable, if it's not the router/switch port... I've got some bad news for you.

I did try that with no success.

However, I think i may have found the fault. I kept fiddling around with the cable trying to get link and I found a position that works. I'll just have to see for how long. I think the problem is with the tiny metal lines in the port not connecting with the ones on the cable.

Fire - I have had an ethernet cable ripped out of a port on my Laptop (long story - in Aport lounge and guy went around my chair and caught on cable) - I ended up using tooth-pic's and a metal file to re-align the RJ45. I was going to request a repair but its continued to work so no need.

Well right now it's still working, but if it fails again I'll try to move them a little with a needle or a toothpick. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks.
