I notice they offer this as an accessory. Do ALL XPS machines have the wireless display option or do you need to be sure to select only certain processors?

Also, I have read pretty terrible reviews of Netgear's product and am curious if there are other options that people like more?

I am also wondering if we can expect a time soon where you can go wireless to the TV with basically 0 noticeable lag?

any of the non-quad core xps can do WIDI (push2tv). you need to have intels integrated graphics. i picked up my netgear box off ebay for like 50 bucks when i ordered my laptop.

While theres lag, its amazing for watching movies. it sets up your tv just like an extra monitor, so you can duplicate, extend your monitor.

I play starcraft while streaming netflix to the tv and it works beautifully.

I heard asus is working on a 0 lag one... but idk anything about it.

    works perfectly for video though

i assume that means that all quad cores will work? and 100% of sandy bridge chips will have this ability?

any further info on this asus unit or ANY alternatives to the netgear unit that has miserable reviews?

WIDI needs integrated graphics. my assumption was: because none of the quad cores have switchable graphics, they only have dedicated graphics (which won't work)

Nope. i just didn't define mine well enough. the current set of dell quad cores for the xps series don't support widi (which is parallel to that list) the two quad cores dell offers for the 17" aren't on the list

tx. as for sandy bridge processors? will all/some/none of them support it?

are there other ways to wirelessly go laptop to TV without the proper chip?

Speaking from experience, I was one of the unlucky ones who ordered the NetGear PTV1000(push2tv) along with my current setup from dell online from dell's site WITH their advice that it would work. Of course I didn't think twice about investigating whether the quadcore processors had onboard graphics that Optimus(an built in option for the Nvidia GeForce GT 445M that comes equipped with i7 processors) nor that it was required for WIDI.
This is the main reason I actually found this forum to find out what was going on, this was in November. I am one of the main reasons that dell created a sticky in the laptop general hardware forum stating what we already know now.
As for the sandy bridge processors, they will all have on board graphics and theoretically all will be WIDI capable.
The question about other options to transmit wirelessly is kinda broad and most likely that there is or will be, it's a fantastic Idea and I am sure that this industry will build upon that Idea.
Asus I know nothing about, except that their setup is similar to the Dell XPS line.
    I hope this helps.

All those i7s are either dual core or Sandy Bridge, all which have integrated graphics.
