    Hey all....!

Has anyone removed the keyboard on their 1530??

I need to remove the keyboard on mine to get underneath to do some *cleaning*! I used Compressed Air, per normal..but it's not getting to the keys I need it to.

I have the instructions from Dell's support site, but I was wondering if this is a fairly easy task! And, if anyone has incurred any problems upon removal, and also when returning it to the lappy!

Please advise, and thanks so much...

    Cin ;) :)

Yeah its pretty easy, the only hard part is not scratching the keys. you just remove the console (power buttons and media keys) bit, then open the two screws holding it down, unplug the connector and it slides out. I assume you know how to remove the console?

Be caruful with the keyboard connector hinge. It just "flips down". I know someone broke the connector while forcing it to slide. It'll cost you a new motherboard. Just flip it open. I think I saw a link to one on m1530.
    Good luck.
PS: Dont you want to see how a black keyboard would look like on your m1530, while you remove the original silver? ;)

Yes, I’ve done it several times on my M1330, and I believe the process is identical to M1530 (remove hinge colvers and center control panel, then lift and slide the keyboard forward after removing the two screws securing the keyboard to the chassis). Here are the service manual instructions. Be careful not to hit the screen when sliding the keyboard forward (better cover the screen with a cloth before start working).

I was hoping Cin' was doing a keyboard swap but it seems like she's just cleaning it :p

We've got a couple of pics with the m1330 with a black keyboard but no m1530 pics :(
