ok so there is a problem with my dell xps m1330. the battery won't charge because it's not even recognized by the computer. there's no way that the battery is dead because i don't use it much. when i boot to the bios and connect the battery, it says that there is no battery connected.

also my cd drive is messed up, everytime i insert a disc, it ejects it out. i tried booting to bios and safe mode and putting in a disc but sometimes it works, other times it ejects.

so do i have a faulty motherboard? or it is my bios? i've tried to update the bios but i can't do that unless my battery is connected...

    please help

Do you still have a warranty? Dell's warranties pretty much cover everything (except the battery itself after 1 year). So if your warranty is still active just call them up and they'll replace your motherboard or find a fix for you.

Otherwise, are you able to boot the computer with it disconnected from the AC Adapter? Try to boot it up if your battery still works (unplugged) and just drain it entirely, and then try to charge it.

    Hope this helps.

Given your title... I'll ask the simple question. Are you sure the battery has been properly pushed in all the way? Have you tried pushing it in multiple times? Are you using the AC adapter that came with your laptop?

Incorrect reasoning, but I'm not saying it is dead.

Dont the Dell batteries come with a self-diagnostic ability? i.e. hold down the button for a while, after the lights flash and if all 5 lights come up or something, it means its dead. This will confirm if its a battery problem ... I have something of this nature on my Dell laptop battery.

To double check, and I know this may not help since your laptop is not recognising your battery, but if you go into the BIOS settings, there is usually a Battery health tab as well.

If still no good. Time for Dell Support. Hopefully its still in warranty and you can score some new stuff.

Try Battery Bar. It'll show you the charging capacity of your battery. If the battery isn't recognized then your connection is faulty or you have a totally dead battery.

    to answer all your questions:
    1) i no longer have warranty
    2) yes ofc i've plugged it all the way in, what kind of question is that? it's a battery...
    3) i am using the AC adapter that came with it. using the ac adapter works but i am unable to boot with the battery
    4) pressing and holding the button on the battery does nothing
    5) bios does not detect the battery, as i've mentioned previously in the post...
    6) battery bar and hwmonitor don't detect the battery either.

i think it's the connection and not the battery, as i am also having problems with my cd drive...

the problem is i am not really sure if it's a faulty mobo or the devices themselves. if i buy a new battery and cd drive and it still does not work , then i've wasted money for no reason. i want to be sure before i buy anything.

    can anyone help me?

also, i cannot "drain" the battery b/c if you've read the post, then you've see that i've said that it does not even recognize the battery, thus it does not charge

just because your battery doesn't charge..doesn't mean it can't discharge..just saying.

well that was the point, it's already discharged, it discharged before it died. but i want to make sure that it's the battery that's dead before i make any purchase or if it's the system. since it already fully discharged before it "died", there is no way to discharge it now cause i can't recharge it.

but this is besides the point, can anyone help me with this problem?

Ultimately, you are going to have to call Dell. It sounds as though the mobo is faulty as you are having various other issues.
