i7-2630QM (2 GHz) should be fine and not much difference over i7-2720QM (2.2 GHz) except added CPU instruction and Intel Virtualization Technology
nvidia 540m (2 G. ram) is the highest GPU for dell xps15 and its irreplaceable. but should fine for gaming at lower resolution. (720 p)

for games the difference is minor and most games depend on GPU which is the bottleneck especially in dell xps15 as 540m is a midrange GPU and will run most games in moderate detail and 720 resolution.
application is another story but again the benefit will be not much depend on type of applications i.e., photoshop will get advantage of better Hdd. (SSD)

I will play games though im not a hardcore gamer
i usually wud want every game to work on my laptop

I thought i7-2720 QM will provide future security and processor needs for future applications
coz i'll hav this laptop for atleast 4 years from now

im taking that processor and sacrificing blu ray
coz in india there hasnt been circulation of blu ray discs so i thought it that way

n i thought that if needed in future i can upgrade to blu ray rom
but i cant change my processor that easily

do u know how much will it cost me to upgrade to blu ray after purchasing it?

    is it worth it ?

    so shud i go for
    i7-2630QM

blu ray drive prices range depend on model (blue ray writing or just reading) but generally it cost over 100$ and prices should come down with time.
and as mentioned earlier no much difference between i7-2630QM and i7-2720QM

My opinion: save $225 now and change your laptop for newest one after 3 years and not after 4 :)
And about games: I bought XPS l502x of about 1 month ago and had a lot of problems with lounching games on it. If you would like more info - read http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/585063-l502x-video-hardware-errors.html#post7665806 Till now I don't know what is the reason of that problem!!!

You will not see any differences between 2720QM and 2630QM, only in benchmarks, or unless you work with aplications like PhotoShop, rendering, encoding etc. I think it's better for you to save that $220.

With 2630QM you are on quad core, very strong one, that will do all your jobs in the next 4 years for sure ;)

    yaaa
    every one has neglected
    1600 mhz ram in i7-2720QM
wat do u think that will it be a trend to use 1600mhz
    within years to come

n can i use 1 1333mhz ram n the other 1600 mhz ram at once

Will it give me more boost with 1600 Mhz ram?

coz i personally think that as processing power has increased
so application demanding more processing power will also increase with time
im sayin it for next 4 years

I'm in the same boat as you - asking questions.
However, I read somehwere that upgrading your XPS 15 is a minor nightmare because of the difficulty of accessing the components. I don't know how true that is, but I did read it.
