ok, so I have already had plenty or problems with this computer
    hard drive fail
2-3 pixels dead on the screen
but anyways, my newest ( and hopefully fixable) problem. I have no sound!
I just reformatted my hard drive completly and got rid of vista. and I put in the dell drivers and utilities cd and have tried to install the driver for the audio. and it is not working. it comes up saying nothing found or something along that line. And I know it wouldn't be just the switch from vista to xp b.c. I have had xp running fine on my computer for a while. I am just looking for the correct driver for my computer and I really don't know where to find one. Dells website hasn't helped. And I would just go download crazy trying to find the correct driver, but I am on a very slow computer/internet connection. please help, thanks

You have had XP running on what computer? The Dell utilities and drivers will not work for XP if Vista came preinstalled. Do a search for XP on m1710.

I did a search on dell for my service code and for xp drivers for a sound card driver. and yea, it takes about 45 minutes for a 15 meg download, so I am trying to make sure I get the right one before I download anything haha

and actually the utilities and drivers are on the cd have options for xp and vista. its just the audio one for xp used to work for me, and now it doesn't. could it have anything to do with having sertain service packs installed?

That's the exact link to Dell's FTP site to download the audio driver - I presume you do not have the creative audigy version.

no, I don't believe I do. would you happen to have another link to that of the excact driver. Since could it be having SP3 installed on my computer? Perfectly legal copy ( well, in the country I am it is, haha) But yea, I just can't get that link to work at all
