I'm moving to Iceland very soon for work and need a strong laptop (buying one there would cost twice as much as doing so in the US and taking it with me). There are only two vendors that provide service and support in Iceland: Apple and Dell.

I'm a Windows guy and I look forward to Windows 8, but I don't have any brand loyalties. I just make informed purchasing decisions. The problem is I use such specialized software that I would absolutely have to run Boot Camp exclusively if I bought a MacBook Pro.

I was really excited to receive my XPS 15 2012. Then I read about the Wi-Fi issues, the grid-on-screen issues, and the throttling issues. I know that a Dell warranty would apply in Iceland, but there would likely be an absence of available parts for any recall and replacement.

Then I received an XPS 15 2012 with all of the foreshadowed issues others have complained of, plus two dead pixels and a depressed touchpad. I returned the laptop the next day, although I had to argue with Dell's outsourced customer support for 30 minutes before they conceded that I could, in fact, return the laptop for a full refund.

I'm really torn here. I want to give Dell a shot. It would be easier on me to pick up a Windows machine. But my first experience with this laptop and Dell support was terrible, and I'm not convinced the multitude of problems plaguing the XPS 15 2012 are being taken care of.

So what is it? Give Dell another shot or suck it up and go with a MacBook Pro?
