    Hello

    What memory should I buy to my M1330? I'm looking for 4 GB modules but Dell doesn't have them on their Swedish site. And I assume there are cheaper ones than those recommended by Dell.

    Thanks
    SB

    Thanks, but that was a 2x2GB, I'm looking for 2x4GB.

    Yes they do, but they're ridiculously expensive compared to 2GB modules. You can easily get two 2GB modules, totaling 4GB, for $40 US. A single 4GB module will generally cost at least $200.

    Sergiobaschi, what could you possibly need more than 4GB of RAM for?

    Now that I think about it, the M1330 uses the old PM965 chipset, which I don't believe even supports more than 4GB of RAM total.

    Incorrect. The hardware supports up to 8 GB of RAM. Early versions of the XPS 1*30 BIOS limited the machines to 4 GB, but later revisions of the BIOS have lifted this limit. I know people here have gotten 8 GB into a 1530. I'm not sure whether anyone has done it with the 1330 yet.

    Ah, my mistake. I must have been thinking of the 945 or something. All I know is, my Studio 1535 has the PM965 and is unable to use 8GB.

    Either way, unless 4GB is somehow not enough, more than that is just not cost effective at all.

    It depends on what you do.

    8GB = 2x 4GB SO-DIMM DDR2-667 are available for US$ 275.99

    If you use a lot of virtual machines, the money might be very well spent. Use latest A15 BIOS and 8GB in the M1330 with its PM965/GM965 Chipset run fine.

    Many thanks for your answers.

    I had heard that prices on RAM have decreased and thought it would cost like US$ 100 to get 2x4GB. But obviously it doesn't - I'll wait until then.

    I'm pretty sure someone on the forums had tested the M1330 with more than 4GB and it didn't work. Glad to be stand corrected, though.

    Edit: I just checked and Dell is selling the thing with 8GB, so I guess it does work. I'll just shut up now.
