Does anyone know when Dell (Canada) will be shipping XPS units with the new Montevina platform?

No one knows for sure. Next week Intel will release the entire Centrino 2 package, so maybe we'll know more then.

I think that Dell will wait until full Centrino 2, and then refresh their XPS line. I'm still waiting to see the new line, seems to be nice (using for reference the STUDIO, which is cheaper than XPS and looks very good). :)

As my opinion I'll wait until they refresh the line, because last time that i bought a laptop a month later came the new line. And really upset me that I expend $2,200 when waiting just one more month I would cost me about $1,500.

I've been waiting 1 month so...another month is not going to kill me... :p

Same here. I really want a 17" XPS but I'm not going to consider getting it until they have the new Montevina chip.......hopefully at the same time they'll get the 9800GT's and HDMI

Actually I'm looking for a 15'' XSP... I have a Inspiron 9300 17'' 1440X900 resolution (NO GLOSSY :) ) , I like the big screen but is to heavy if I want to carry on college. So XPS 15'' is slim and the weight is not that much. :D

What kind of screen are u going to order??? I'm not sure if the 1920x1200 or the 1440x900 LED... If the take out a 1920x1200 LED I'll go with that one. Which is best for BluRay movies????

I know that the new CPUs Monty offers arent going to be necessary or really even used to there full extent until developers start writing code for it. Im very happy with the XPS I bought and it'll make me very happy until I see it cheap to someone in two years and use that money towards a brand new XPS

I've looked like 30min ago in Dell.com that they have huge discount at XPS models until today. (like 600$ in discount) Probably a good advise that they want to get rid of their existing xps. For me it seems that they'll going to refresh XPS line soon. :)

Can somebody answer my question??? please... :)

It's the same amount of discount that DELL had a week ago.
I bet at 7:00AM, the discount will be back to somewhere around $400.

I'm not sure but I think the 192x1200 is best for blu-ray......... either way, I'm going to get the 1920x1080. I'm guessing a refreshed XPS line will have the 1920x1200 LED screens because the Studio 17 I sent back did.

Ummm... the Studi 17 only has 1440x900 LED. The 1920x 1200 does not have LED.

Your invoice is definitely lying to you.

Unless of course your not from the US, and somehow UK gets LED backlit 1920x1200 resolution... which is highly unlikely, but hey, if they want to give the US the short end of the stick for the Studio since UK got the short end with the M1530... which again is unlikely.

Or you got that special unit that contains one of Dell's experimental 1920x1200 LED screens that they havn't released out to the public yet, but accidentally stuck it on yours.

Post your Part Number that you see on your Invoice for the screen you have.

Configure a Studio 17 with the 1920x1200 screen then put it in the cart......it lists the screen up top, but when you scroll to the bottom it mentions the screen again and there it also says it's a WLED.

So basically you are saying that the invoices DELL is sending out with their Studio 17's with 1920x1200 screens are wrong/lying and DELL is wrong/lying in the info it gives about the 1920/1200 screen in the cart ...........but YOU are 100% correct and know 100% that you know more about the parts DELL is using than DELL itself does?

There were rumors of Dell incorporating eSata in all future lines of notebooks, but not the Studio apparently. Perhaps the XPS will.

Let's hope so. My lease is done in a couple months so I'll be ready for a new 15" with eSata. USB to USB copies are just too slow and most of my enclosures are eSata as well.

AHEM........don't know how to take a pic like you did.......but this is COPIED and PASTED DIRECTLY from the CART on the U.S. DELL site like I told you to look at already........notice what I highlighted in BOLD print down near the bottom, the SECOND time it mentions the 1920x1200 display.

Like I told you BEFORE, go to the DELL site (the US one, NOT the UK) and put a Studio 17 with 1920x1200 screen in the CART and READ it for yourself!!!

Do you STILL insist that DELL is WRONG AND DOESN'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE SELLING????? And that YOU know better than DELL itself does????

And how do we know the person they talked to on the phone knew what they were talking about???

Since when have the minimum wage people at Dell's customer service center's word been taken as gospel and never wrong??

Until DELL itself changes what their WEBPAGE and INVOICES say, then WE DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE WHO IS RIGHT OR WRONG!!!! I'm more inclined to believe what it says on the INVOICES and DELL'S WEBPAGE as knowing what they're talking about rather than the word of 1 minimum wage customer service rep at Dell who probably speaks a language OTHER THAN English as their first language and barely comprehends English.

If DELL's WEBPAGE and INVOICES are incorrect and DELL took the time to tell their lowly customer service reps that BUT DIDN'T BOTHER to update what the CART ON THEIR WEBPAGE TELLS BUYERS and what the INVOICE THEY SEND OUT TELLS BUYERS.....they would be opening themselves up to a huge lawsuit when enough people realize they don't have what DELL TOLD THEM THEY WERE SOLD........I.E.......THE WLED 1900X1280 SCREEN.

If DELL IS THAT STUPID............THEN THEY DESERVE THE TROUBLE THAT WILL BE COMING THEIR WAY FOR SALES FRAUD!!!!!!!

So right back at you.........DEAL WITH THE FACT THAT NEITHER YOU NOR I KNOW WHAT IS CORRECT UNLESS AND UNTIL DELL CHANGES THEIR WEBPAGE CART AND INVOICES TO REFLECT THAT........ all any of us knows 100% for sure is what the cart on Dell's webpage and the invoices Dell is sending out CLAIM that Dell is selling.....................SO STOP YOUR OWN WHINING!!!!!!

So the Dell CSR is fallible but the website isn't? Your own argument is falling down around you. Both can be erroneous and in this case your automated invoice was.

Since no amount of member testimony, Dell representative or actual website proof to the contrary can seem to squash your incessant Capslock-ridden tirades, I'm just going to let you get on with it. You've hijacked this thread for long enough.

I trust forum members here over Dell reps any day. When I ordered my xps early in the summer they would give me all kinds of wrong information and it lead to a terrible experience.

I have to say also that if they give the xps a DDR3 9600 GT and an eSATA port than I'm dropping all my funds on it the day its listed.

    @tsuzukab- Stop complaining.

This is not sales fraud and excuse me for saying but you are being irate and illogical... First off, sales fraud is advertising a product that can be purchased at a particular price, etc. Then you have to purchase the product with proof you THOUGHT you purchased the said product and it was different.

The Dell purchase screen that the screen shot is from clearly shows what can be purchased from Dell- no misrepresentation, nothing. Even when you select the screen and hit "review configuration" etc, you still will see that it is a normal 1920x1200 screen. Thus Dell IS telling you what YOU have bought. The key is you PAID for a particular configuration, and you are receiving that configuration. Also when you ordered you SAW that configuration. Just the invoice was incorrect after you ordered and the money was sent.

From your own information, you said you did not know about the LED screen until your invoice- thus you assumed before your invoice you were purchasing a normal 1920x1200 screen from Dell. Furthermore you did not intend to purchase the WLED screen but instead planned on purchasing the normal 1920x1200. Thus Dell has no fault except a misprint or mislabel on their web-page. This is NOT illegal, and definitely not sales fraud- I've studied this before, and trust me... just because you are misinformed and misinterpret the law and feel you have the "right"/"ability" to sue Dell for your faulty logic, doesn't mean you are right. Also lay off the caps and stop attempting to talk down to other forum members when all they are doing is helping you. When you get your 1920x1200 normal screen, you can just enjoy the fact that all the forum members will sit here saying I told you so.

Secondly, the customer service reps are in India (and a few other countries) this is true. But to say that an Indian does not speak English is flat out wrong. In India it is REQUIRED in school to learn English and then take 2 other languages up until their 11-12th grade years in which they can take English and 1 other language... plus their native dialect- which if you didn't know (as you sound naive and a bit arrogant) varies across India dramatically. I do not mean different sounding variations of the the Indian language- I mean completely separate regional Indian languages. Actually most Indians speak 3 languages if not more and English is ALWAYS part of it. So stop bad-mouthing other countries as well as people because you say you can't understand them. Have you ever actually asked the Customer service rep about your not understanding them- maybe ask them if they could switch you out, etc to someone that may speak more fluently? and ask politely? Attempt to solve your own problems. Don't complain unless you try to fix something yourself first.

Get your facts straight please and realize the forum is here to help people not bash them.

good day- and you may want to apologize to Forte; because quite frankly Forte was correct.

I see the guy said he chatted with dell so im assuming that it was the chat function on dell technical support. I've went on technical support a couple times and they know what they're talking about. I tried to ask some other questions too like when dell is gona refresh their xps lines with montevina and stuff like that but they're just saying that they don't have that information but I think that they're still tryin gto keep it a secret since dell hasn't announced it yet XP

Was this a Dell Chat or phone? I'll try again tonight and see if I can get someone to slip. The Dell Chat rep seemed to at least acknowledge that there are new models for Centrino 2. The phone rep had no clue.
