No direct experience using mobile broadband on that machine but here are all the drivers for it:

    Drivers & Downloads

Have a look through to find the mobile broadband ones.

If you bought it with the mobile broadband stuff then it should have everything already installed unless you have reinstalled windows.

Ok, I use this every day, so here you go:

In case you don't already have it installed (or to update the latest drivers), go to the link provided by tomberries, and download and install Dell Mobile Broadband Manager, and Dell Wireless 5540 HSPA. The first is the program, the second is the driver.

Turn off laptop, plug in SIM, turn on. Open Dell Mobile Broadband Manager. If you're on a popular network, the SIM should contain all the info you need to connect. Just click "connect" and Boom! you're good.

If your SIM doesn't contain the APN, or you want to change the APN (for example, I use 3 UK but I change the APN, because they offer uncapped mobile broadband on smartphones but not on data SIMs, so I changed the APN to use the smartphone one and I get uncapped 3G data), go to settings, advanced, profiles, and set it up. A quick google of "service provider, country, apn" will get you the results you need, for example "MTN south africa apn".

hey! nice to gather all this important information here.
But is there any specification on the type of sim card?
As per the dell service centres here in india, the sim card slot below the battery panel is dedicated to some H1 type of sim card? What exactly is that?
