    Hi,

I have been trying to use various different sim cards in my XPS 15 but seems like it only accepts the Vodafone and even when I put it in it gets the signal but cannot browse the web due to APN error.

It might be due to it being Pas-As-You-Go but are our xps15 locked to Vodafone?

    Thanks

I can't tell you whether you can use other network SIMs, but I can verify your claim.

A friend of mine received his XPS 15 with a Vodafone SIM card already inserted, and can only select the Vodafone network.

I'm not sure if it's possible to unlock or change your APN settings.

Mine came with the 5540 card (UK) with a Vodafone SIM preinstalled, just popped it out and stuck my T-mobile one in and it works fine.

    I've tried :

    O2 Contract sim
    Orange Contract sim
    Vodafone UK payg
Even the one that came with the laptop does not seem to connect.
It finds the mobile signal but won't let me browse.

Maybe I should try using Vodafone software?

The one that comes in the laptop (vodafone) needs to be activated (as per the instructions that came with it) but if you have another SIM, just pop it in and open up the broadband manager software and select the relevant profile to use in the settings?

Oh, for the SIM to be recognised you have to insert the SIM, leave the power disconnected and battery out for a few seconds then turn it back on. Seemed to work for me.

    Thanks for the advice!

I could not activate the "Advanced" button under settings but now for some reason it started working and can confirm the laptop now works with various sim cards.

    How bizarre!

This is for those searching these forums in the future.
As the WWAN option is non-optional on the UK config website if you place your order by phone you can not only choose to not have it the and also replaced by a TV tuner.
Unfortuatly ths doesn't help anyone who already owns an L502x
