It's hotter than when I play Skyrim, even if its just sitting at the menu the fans are running at their fastest and the air is the hottest that I have experienced on the laptop so far.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

edit: after installing the latest java 64bit, it runs a little cooler but still seems excessive.

I've noticed this not only on my l502x but also on my gaming rig at home, it's just the nature of the gaming code I guess. Even my desktop fans will spin up pretty high, no matter if I'm at the menu or actually playing the game.

Java games are soo heavy. You might reduce heat by switching to "balanced" or "power saver" in the options menu in Minecraft. I have the same experiences. Not much to do with it. I think its because Minecraft is rendering too many frames per second. 60 Frames per second is max for my screen, but sometimes minecraft renders 300 frames per second, 240 of them are redundant. This might be the reason why it generates so much heat. As i said before, try editing the power settings in the menu, view framerates by pressing F3 while in-game..

Is there a way to under clock a graphics card? and would that reduce the heat produced?

Yep, Use MSI Afterburner or nVidia inspector. I prefer MSI Afterburner.
    Yes, It would reduce heat.

Make sure you have your computer on a surface that easily dissapates heat like glass or aluminium (LOL). Wood is not so great. You could buy a cooler pad, but unless your computer doesn't shutdown automatically it's nothing to worry about. Mine reaches easily 95 C on cpu and 80 on GPU. Just remember to purchase warrenty from Dell ? The Official Site | Dell

68 is not bad, mine reaches 80-85 at high gpu+cpu utilization for long periods of time.
