Is it possible to remap MediaDirect so that it boots up Media Center instead?

No. Mediadirect is build to run on Windows, Mediadirect is built so that it doesn't fully rely on Windows, hence why you can simply boot into Media Center. You can remap to Mediadirect, but it will be like if you mapped it to your web browser. After you start up to Windows, you press mediadirect button, then it launches the Windows Media Center.

What happens when you press the Media Direct button in a power off situation? My MD button is mapped to IE, and when I press the button when powered down it powers up and launches Vista. Does it do the same the way you have it mapped?

If you have MediaDirect installed and have applied the changes to the registry as outlined, then a power off button depress will boot the MediaDirect partition.
