So my media keys decided to stop working again. I know the current solution is to pull out the battery and hold down the power key to drain the power. However, this is probably the 5th or 6th time the media keys went dead again. What is the cause of the problem, how do I prevent it, and is there a permanent fix?

mine also freeze up.. the media keys have issues; i've taken my notebook apart many times to look for a solution... no idea.

a reboot usually fixes it.. i think it may be a bios/firmware/software issue of some kind.

    It probably is.

What a shame. The laptop works so well beyond that. And apparently it's not limited to just the XPS, I think the studio also have the same problem.

We have a slightly different issue. On startup, the touch-sensitive eject button will stay lit and keep attempting to eject the disk for 5-10 minutes or so, as though someone were repeatedly pressing the button. During this time, none of the other buttons respond. However, once the eject button stops sticking, the whole panel functions completely normally. Dell is apparently at a loss as to why this happens, to the point that they completely scrapped the touch-sensitive buttons in the new Studio 1555, and just gave it keyboard shortcuts instead.
