Well here i´m following the Cin´s advice so i resort to all of you looking for help.

This is my first thread and i´ve an awful english, sorry (i´m from Argentina) so i hope to be clear. (good questions = good answers)

I´m looking for a internet and gaming notebook (crysis, gta iv), and to use design software (solidworks, catia and the charming autocad) and here is my options.

    Asus g50vt x5

    CPU:Core2duo P7450, 2.13 ghz
GPU: Nvidia geforce 98''m gs - 512 mb
    RAM: 4gb, 800 mhz
    HDD:32gb 7200rpm SATA
    PRICE: 1500

    and

    Dell studio xps 1640

    CPU:Core2duo P7350, 2.00 ghz
GPU: ATi mobility RADEON HD3670 - 512 mb
    RAM: 4gb ddr3, 1067 mhz
    HDD:32gb 7200rpm SATA
    PRICE: 1600

(both prices are in dollars, we pay that much because of the shipping, it really sucks)

And i´ve a couple of questions: Can i put a core2quad on the 1640? can i easily overclock the 1640 like the g50? the g50 has got and option to overclock from the direct console

so, what do you think?I like the asus because it has got the numberpad, the overclockin from direct console function and i think that it has got better performance, but i also think that the ATi on the dell is a great card and makes the 1640 a great choice, weak procesor but is ok.
I really apreciate your comments and suggestions, i´ve to say sorry because of my english and well....i will be waiting for your answers. Take care!!

posting this in a dell forum will probably give you some biased responses. BTW Ati 4670 would probably be a good upgrade choice for gaming.

the 1640 is great for gaming, but I haven't tried crysis yet.
obviously I would get the ATI 4670 if I was going to buy it for gaming as well..

jshadoww, xnightxwingx and Cyrus20 thanks for your answer.
xnightxwingx mi max budget is 1600, the high prices are due to a customs tax for the imported articles.
I would love to get de g51 but here in Arg. is very dificult to get asus notebooks, i can get the X5 because i talk with a importer and that is the model he can obtain.
There is one more important thing: if i buy the 1640, i will get it via dell service here in Arg, that means that i will have the 1 year guarantee, with the X5 i will not have guarantee...if i have any problems the importer should have to send it again to the usa (1 month without my notebook)
    and again, my question:
*can i put a quad core on the 1640?like the intel core quad Q910, here is the link
*nvidia geforce 9800m gs > ATi radeon hd 3670?

    thanks again for your answers!

The Asus will be a much stronger gaming notebook (the 9800M GS is better than the Radeon HD 3670). However, keep in mind that the Asus G50 is larger than most 15" notebooks and certainly rivals the size and weight of 16" systems.

For both the Dell and Asus, you will not be able to put a quad core CPU in them.

Also, a few things to note; the Dell 1640 doesn't get great battery life, yet the Asus will most likely do even worse in the battery department due to the high-end GPU it carries. The Asus has 2 hard drive bays and a RAID controller - this can provide you with additional hard drive capacity and performance if you feel the need for it. In my opinion, the Dell looks a heck lot better than the flamboyant design on the Asus. However, if gaming is one of your top priorities, then the Asus should be the better choice for you.

Why don't you also factor in the warranty? I think it should be very high on your priorities list, not only the performance of these laptops. If something goes wrong with the Asus, are you ready to be without a computer for 1-1.5 months? If you use it for work, then it's one of the most important criteria, IMHO (if only for entertainment, then it doesn't really matter, of course).

if you get the 1640, you should definately find a way to get the better graphics card (4670).

LexusForever you´re right, but if i get the asus, i´ve got no other option but trust that i will have no problems with the notebook. If i got any problems i´ve got a good desktop, but i want to trust in asus because i think that the x5 worth it.
fernandez21 you´re right, maybe i will get the asus. On this monday i will do the operation and maybe in 20 days i will get my lap.
Thanks to all for your answers!!
