:( I know why the game runs in low fps

The xps 14 always auto downclock to 200Mhz.
I really want to lock it at 500, does anyone know how to do it?

Which XPS 14 config you have? It must be an i7. If it's not, revert back to this reply. If it's overheating, it must be the cause of your problem.

You must contact dell about throttling, but it seems that you're not sure about the downclocking problem. I recommend you to run a stress-test with prime95 for at least 10 minutes. And then keep checking the clock-speeds and CPU temps. Tell your result after a 10 minute stress test, the peak temps you reached.

If it throttles, use throttlestop software. Type in throttlestop on google, download it, extract the archive.

Before opening throttlestop, perform the following steps:

    1) click on battery icon which is next to the system clock (on the bottom right corner of the screen).

    2) click on more power options, and then switch to high performance mode.

    3) Then click on 'change plan settings'.

    4) Locate the processor power management. Expand it, and then set the minimum processor state to 100%.

    Now, open throttlestop.exe

You'll see a dialogue box. Check the Set Multiplier check box, then choose your desired multiplier (13x if you have the i7 740QM, 14x if you're with the 840QM). And then click on 'Turn On', and you're done. You'll be running at the stock frequency fine.

also, mention the game and the fps you're getting. Before this I haven't heard of i7 throttling in the XPS series.

He's talking about his GPU not his CPU, Throttlestop is a CPU app only. The only way to prevent the GPU from downclocking on idle is to flash the Vbios, I strongly recommend you not even try. The downclocking is there for a reason, to make your GPU last longer when it's not needed. Even OC'ing via programs like MSI Afterburner will still allow it to downclock when not being used.

It was downclocking while in game, I changed the power setting to performance. Now it's fixed
I really don't care how long it will last since I will sell this one once MBP comes out.........so the feature buyer will take care of it. I wouldn't stay longer with a old school style laptop until new MBP
    LOL
