Ive had my XPS M1730 for only a week and already ive started to do minor tweeks, i really like the backlit keyboard which is great, the LED`s in the vents and on the touchpad look nice as well.

Personally i think the backlit coloured blades on the back of the LCD look a bit tacky as they have too much light bleed from the sides, if it had been a bit more subtle in the way it was lit i probably would have left them on, i think it looks better without the blades and Dell logo illuminated.

What do you have illuminated ?

When I had mine I had the LCD Lid lit (wings) and the keyboard lit. Touchpad and Speakers were always off.

The Smoke Gray wings are the best in my opinion. Not a lot of light bleed and just easier on the eyes. I had the Bone White intially and that color option lit up the entire room at night - way too bright.

Might want to look into this Stig - http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4582473&postcount=1

Thats excellent what he has done but i wouldn`t go to that sort of level just to make my blades and logo a different colour, its strange how you can control the colours from the bios for the other LED`s and from the gaming panel as well but you can`t change the colours on the back of the LCD cover.

LMAO that quote is at the bottom of the tutorial.

I guess I'm a bit of a traditionalist I like the dark blue and dark red the best. Unfortunately I've got the red wings so mixing up the colours can look a "mixed?" or out of whack I guess.

As for which colours I use - for my day to day use I change every so often, might do so now that you've mentioned it. Anyway keyboard light off (I find it warms up the keys a bit, might be my imagination tho' as I've never really tested it. Touch pad red, speakers red.

Thanks for the post mmmmmmmmmmmmm might go green today!
