I need to pull the trigger on a laptop very soon, within a week or so. I have been back and forth between getting a nicely loaded M1730 or getting a cheap studio 17.

Wondering if anyone has seen the M1730 in any bestbuys on display or anything? Hit our local one tonight and they had more on display than I thought but no M1730. I didn't have time to wait 30 minutes to ask if any of the other bestbuys around had any. Tried staples but they had barely any selection at all.

Would love to be able to see the M1730 in person before making up my mind.

You wont see it at Best Buy. Its a great laptop - if you are willing to drop the coin, then do it. Be sure to go for the complete care/accidental damage 4 yr on site repair. Also, if you are in the USA, I would wait until the 9800M GTX option shows itself on the website.

Think i am leaning towards the 1730, looking for any discounts/coupons i can now to see what i can get it down to =)

Any idea when the GTX is going to be available? Don't have too much time to wait as I need to get the order in soon.

I've seen it on my desk :p . Seriously though, it's a great system and now with a great price, if you can't wait for the 9800M GTX, I say just get it!

    Hi everyone,

My first post here. My name is Dirk and I'm from the Netherlands.

I'm a bit in the same boat, switching between the M1730 and Toshiba or some other brand.
The M1730 with 2x9800M GT SLI or 2x9800M GTX SLI is available in the Netherlands now. But would you still get any of these?
I mean it is an "old" platform. No centrino2, no support for 1066 DDR3. And most competitors do offer this at the moment.
I don't know if centrino2 or DD3 support is really that important, performance-wise. But it could be reason enough to go for something else.
Right now Dell is offering 400 Euro discount on the M1730 plus 20% discount on the total care package and also a coupon for 10% discount on the total overall order. So I'm very tempted to pull the plug in this one. But I still have a feeling to get an "old" sytem. So does centrino2 and 1066 MHZ DD3 memory offer that much more performance?

Just get M1730. I have been using it for 1 year. Now waiting for 98m or 280m series if Dell gets interested. It cheap as hell compared to its old price.

Doh. Was toying with putting my order in and just and the price just went way up on the home side doing the same config. Hoping there is a new coupon or something out there to get it back down to what it was at least.

Is the Ageia Physx card a good option, or are ther just a few games supporting this. Do I need this with an 9800M GTX SLI config?

If I could back in time I would probably buy an Alienware m17x instead of my m1730. Alienware had delayed the thing too many times though and I needed a pc.

Agree on the PPU, not worth it at this point.

Why may I ask? Dell has better support generally, and two system are almost identically spec'ed, only difference is in brand/style? :)

Bad experiences overall with their support this past year (posted in the Dell support area). Also, the build quality isn't quite what I had expected.

Even though they are owned by Dell, my understanding is that Alienware still has free reign to some extent.
