I have been asking this over in the Sager forum too. Im curious about how anyone with an M1730 likes their LCD? From research, it appears both models use a LG lp171wu1....700:1 contrast and 16ms refresh. Several on the Sager forum are complaining about the display being dim however. Display is very important to me and I need something bright. If the Dell is brighter and they both use the same panel how could they look any different?

Display on the M1730 is awesome. Not sure of the contrast ratio, but the response time is 7ms - not the 16ms you state above. I believe this laptop has the fastest response time currently available in a notebook.

The M1730 can typically come with one of 3 LCDs....

Sharp - Reported to be a little grainy.
Samsung - Light leakage issues at bottom of screen
LG - Little, if any, light leakage. Pin sharp image.

The LCDs for the M1730 are very bright, vivid, and sharp. Its probably one of the best screens I have ever used (Im a network manager so Ive seen a lot of screens, believe me!). The colours are so vivid and sharp, it really does look like they are jumping out at you.

I have 2 of these systems - one at home and one at work. In one I have the Samsung, and at home I have the LG. Im happy with both. Both give vivid, sharp images, although the Samsung has a little light leakage, its not a major issue.

    Awesome.

7ms...are you sure? I'm pretty sure I remember reading a review that mentioned the m1730 only having a 16ms response.

Also even though the 9262 and M1730 may use the same screen is it possible the Dell may look better because of a better backlight or glare technology? Also does the Dell M1730 use an LED backlight?

No 7ms I heard in an interview on youtube too with one of the XPS engineers there, the worlds first and only 7ms screen :) Yep they have put some value into this machine for sure.

    I have the samsung..

    Small amount of light leakage...

Can only truly see it on a pure black screen

Better screen than my lenovo laptop or my dell and samsung home LCD's

Colours are fantastic, great viewing angles

    cheers
