I've got an m1710 with the Nvidia 7900 GTX, so I know it will run hot, but should the fans be on all the time?

Yesterday, I was using my laptop for a few hours straight doing various things, mostly updating a website I was working on. The only graphically related processes running was I was watching some avi files in Real Player for a while. Other than that, I was mostly using text editors and doing some web surfing. When I finished, I noticed the fans had been on full strength for a while. I wanted to charge my wirelesss mouse battery, so I decided to leave the laptop on all night. When I woke up though, the fans were still running at full. I even had the lid closed (and thereby the screen off) as well as the hard drive stop after 3 minutes, so I don't understand why it would be hot enough to need the fans on after so long.

    Any thoughts? Thanks.
