    Hello,

I've just received my Dell m1530 about a half hour ago. I plugged in the power supply (which has a solid green light) and turned on the laptop. The only thing that happens is I can hear the fan turn on.. no display, nothing illuminates, the only lights on are the blinking wi-fi symbol.

This is my first time dealing with Dell and so far it's been a nightmare.. did I get a lemon out of the box, or is it something small I'm overlooking? I'm dreading the idea of having to call tech support after dealing with their customer service.

You have to let it charge all be way before turning it on (its not required but a good thing to do).

I would close the laptop and let it sit for about 4 hours. Then try to power on again.

When I press that button on the bottom for battery power, it flashes 5 green lights.. I've also tried powering it on without the battery, same thing. I mean, it's supposed to work even without the battery if it's plugged in, right?

Get Dell support ASAP. This may be a dead on arrival issue, who knows.

Ya I contacted Dell, the tech said the motherboard is dead and they're sending a tech to replace it. I guess I was going through denial about the laptop being DOA..

Agreed! As soon as Dell sends a tech to replace the motherboard, it might as well be refurbished. And if you wanted a refurbished laptop, you could have gone to the Dell outlet site and picked one up for 40-50% less.

I say you get what you paid for and have them replace it with a new one.

I took your advice and tried for a new laptop rather than replacing the mobo.. he said my type of warranty didn't allow swapping systems until the tech came and wasn't able to fix the problem. He told me to either wait for the tech or offered me a refund. He also guarenteed me the replacement mobo would be brand new.

As I'm typing this message, the phone rings and it's the tech setting up an appointment to come today to fix it. So far my experience with Dell has been less than stellar, but I called tech support yesterday evening and the tech will be coming less than 12 hours later, that seems like incredible turnaround to me.

If you've only just received it then you must surely be within the 21 days - you are entitled to a new machine not just a visit.
