Sorry in advance if this thread was already posted. My apollogy thus I don't know how to call this properly.

Situation : I finish surfing web and I wanna give it a little break. I close the lid. I have set it to goto sleep when lid closed (if any1 suggested this). I come back open up but the laptop didnt go to sleep, HDD activity is minimal but I can hear it spinning. Also the screen is still bright but black, I can still change the brightness though with the Fn+upArrow or Fn+downArrow. In order to return to functional state I have to HARDreset.

This happens occassionaly, but its very annoying
Anyone experiencing this sort of trouble ?

So if it didnt go to sleep, why do you have to turn it back on? This is confusing. Is the screen still dark when you open the lid again? If its the problem your describing its nothing new. I have an old inspiron that does this too. Its the usual windows resume from standby problem.

What sort of wireless chip do you have?

Are you running up to date graphics drivers?

It is most likely a problem with the graphics driver.
There are problems with some of the unofficial drivers when waking from sleep, and this could be the case here. Generally what happens is as you describe, the laptop turns back on but only a lit up black screen is displayed...

Try downloading and installing the latest drivers from Nvidia.

Let us know how you get on, I had a similar problem it was very frustrating!
