Hi guys, do any of you have any good ideas on ways to protect the palm rest from your sweat/oil on your hands?

And also, how hard is it to replace the adaptive touch controls on the M1530? Mine are scratched and the volume ^ button doesn't respon well and I want them to send me a new part, can I replace it myself?

Wash your hands before you use / once in a while during usage??? I do.. everytime before I open my laptop and start working on it, I give my hands a wash... Sounds silly, but very very effective... 5 months on, and not a single speck on the palm rest on my M1530.. and I just got through the peak of summer here.

As for the replacement of the touch controls, I read somewhere its pretty easy to fix it yourself... cant remember where I read about it.

(Btw, scratched / not responding already? Isn't your system relatively new? as in you got it in the last couple of months right??)

Yeah it is only 2 months old. It was scratched and non responsive when I got it (just the vol up), but I was in the process of moving and starting school so I never had time to call in my first 21.

So, what should I tell them? That is doesn't work and I want to replace it myself? Will they even let me do that?

You could just tell Dell that the media control bar isn't responding very well. That's what I told them when I was in need of a new one and should be a decent reason for them to replace it.
In my case the service agent immediately offered me to send a technician over to my place. I responded that I would rather fix the part by myself and since there are instructions for replacing it in the user manual I was allowed to fix it on my own.
You might as well consider asking for two new hinge covers because my experience is that they don't seem to fit as perfect after you once remove them and put them back on. After I did that the left hinge cover was very flimsy and could be pushed back and forth...

I do use a BT mouse most of the time, I need to pick up a keyboard.

But my main concern is when I am typing up a paper in our schools common area, I have no room for a keyboard. :(

I will just have to wipe it down with a damp cloth if I feel that it is dirty.
