Hi guys, I've had my m1530 for around 15 months or so... and while going old school and playing nfsu2, i got this!!

Is the graphics card dying? Was it a driver issue?

Problem was solved when i restarted the computer.... (if that helps...)

Lol sorry i'm new to all this and i didn't know what to include with my post.

I have the nvidia 8600M GT (sadly...)

I'm using the latest driver from the dell website - i just updated it recently.

I gamed for about 15 minutes - i didn't see the temps unfortunately, but i did have my cooling fans, and the computer didn't feel anywhere near as hot as it had felt before.

I have cleaned my fans, about a month ago, and they still look reasonalby clean

could be a GPU problem... my m1330 acted like that on my external screen before it died... (screen artifacts disappeared after rebooting, but computer died after a week or so)

if i were you, and warranty about to run out, i would stress the system until it dies and get a mobo replacement (stress as in play a lot of GPU-demanding games or run a GPU-stressing program.... if it's fine, this won't hurt the GPU... if the GPU's dying, you can't save... just force it to die)

    There's generally two possibilities.

One - As you said you recently upgraded your driver, it could possibly be due to that (assuming this wasn't happening before you upgraded)

Two - The faulty 8600 issue.

I'd keep a close eye on it, if it happens again - install a different driver and try and re-create what caused the arti-facting.
Then if it still happens, you'll know it's a faulty card and you can get Dell to replace it.

If I remember correctly, Dell issued an additional year of warranty for those that bought the M1530/M1330 containing the faulty GPU's.

Just phone up Dell and tell them your GPU is failing and you want a replacement. Be firm and tell them that you know it is definitely the graphics card at fault.

Send them that picture for proof.

As others have stated they extended the warranty for an extra year to cover any faults with the graphics card.

If you are planning on keeping this laptop for any length of time it might also be worth asking how much it would be to add another couple of years guarantee, for extra assurance.

    Hope this helps.

Call Dell and get it replaced. That's definitely gonna be the GPU right there....
