Just in the last week I have been getting blue screens stating there are memory parity errors and to contact my hardware vendor, so I did.

Dell states that it could just be an operating system problem and to try and restore the system, so of course I did. They also stated it could be my 8600GT video processor messing up, which is the likely case, but I had to do the step above before proceeding.

Problem is no matter what I try, I get the errors during the setup process and have to restart it. I contacted XPS support and they are now going to replace the motherboard and memory, and sent me a box to send it to them. Oddly they sent a box with the foam for a 13" laptop, and there is no way that it will fit in to the alloted space. They won't send another box because that requires they open another repair case file, which they state they can't do while a the laptop is in "repair status".

So should I just lie the laptop on top of the foam and pack it securely and send it in, or should I talk to someone else?

What really kills me is I lost about 10 days of work data (the rest was backed up on a portable hard drive), and this process is taking much longer to deal with due to them being rather obtuse.

My other issue is when I purchased the laptop, I paid for next day on site warranty, but they are stating that I only have depot repair warranty for my model and configuration. The repairs needed can not be done on site. Or so they state.

Just looking for advice.. as I really require the laptop fixed asap.

hmm do a memory test with Vista's Built-in memtest tool or use memtest+ and if it finds your ram faulty , then you could replace it with new one :D

Great idea. So MemTest+ is running now and if it gives errors I will just replace it.

If it doesn't give up some errors, then I guess I have no choice but to send it in, as it is likely another 8600GT failure that everyone is reporting...

Actually one of my RAM just got destroyed. Maybe something like that ? Started with bluescreens as soon as I tried to start a game or something that needs a lot of ram. I took the ram out and its working. Just ordered 2 new Ram from Corsair. Dell just built in cheap crap Ram in my notebook. hynix Korea 05 RAM....wow!

Yeah the ram in my system is the same as yours, pretty cheap.

I just ran memtest+ for 5 passes, and everything came back fine, so I guess I have no option but to send it in for a motherboard replacement, as it probably is a graphics chip issue.

I just ordered some new ram in case (for the future) if this repair doesn't fix the problem.
